Re: Sick from too many veggies Oh poor Charlie! i really hope this will improve fast! Is he still sick? Very hard to keep him properly hydrated i guess! Sick+runny poo is definitely not the best mixture! I wouldn't worry too much about all the christmas stuff. I guess your family will understand you ain't got the time to transform your house to santa's village give all the stuff you have to deal with atm.
Re: Sick from too many veggies
Oh poor Charlie! i really hope this will improve fast! Is he still sick? Very hard to keep him properly hydrated i guess! Sick+runny poo is definitely not the best mixture!
He does seem to be drinking - luckily, I suppose, he is a big water drinker and tanks his bowl down quite often. He is still doing that. That's good. The vet told me not to feed him last night, but he had his walk kibble rewards - which he threw up when we got back. Then he had his zantac tablet with a tiny bit of cheese. He threw that up too. Today, no breakfast so I guess there is nothing in his tummy at all now. I gave him another zantax tablet and the dose of Pro-Kolin. He hasn't been sick with those, at least yet. I'm just taking him for a walk now, but will try to keep the kibble to a minimum. If he is sick again with just a few walk kibble, I'll ring the vet. Don't want to be stuck over the weekend with him getting worse. He hasn't eaten much without being sick since Wednesday morning now.
It sucks that things always seem to get worse when a weekend is coming so i think it's a good idea to get him checked once more before your vet is not available for a few days. Good to hear he's drinking enough. I guess dehydration would be a bigger problem than no food for a few days.
Re: Sick from too many veggies Oh you poor things Is he utterly unbearable if he doesn't go out? I might be tempted to be absolutely nil by mouth except any required meds and a day inside. I second the suggestion of farming out things to bring and jobs to your family. A quick twenty minutes doing list and sending some emails and Christmas will be sorted. There were plenty of turkeys in sainsburys this morning(yes I was there at 7:30 so that it was bearable) the biggest hassle is storing the monsters! I'd stick with another duck if I was you. Big hugs xxx
Re: Sick from too many veggies Calling the vet now - poo on walk was water and somewhat projectile. Now he is whining and unhappy in his pen. Don't know if that's frustration at a 15 min walk or he needs to go out (will take him to the garden now, obviously).
Re: Sick from too many veggies
Everything Christmassey is in Cornwall. Feeling slightly like I'm failing to cope...I love all individual members of my family dearly. I'm not so keen on them together. Oh god. I'll have to cook a turkey. Will I get one now? How do you cook a turkey anyway?
The lovely Sainsbury's / Waitrose will do all of your veg and side dishes pre-prepared for you, and who cares if it all ends up a bit pick-and-mix? Christmas is not a pass or fail exam... and I think everyone feels like that about their families at this time of year. If not the other 364 days too. You have other things to get on with. Look after Charlie, and most importantly, look after you - or you won't be up to anything much. Clare
Re: Sick from too many veggies Poor Charlie he doesn't sound happy and poor you for having to deal with it all Let us know what the vet says x
Re: Sick from too many veggies Vet says (on the phone) that it must be a bug as can't be the meds as those have been stopped since Wednesday now. So I'm to go pick up some ABs and feed them with tiny bits of chicken and rice, small amounts at a time, to try keep them down. I'll go get them now - but also press on whether they should take samples so they know what bug we're dealing with...
Re: Sick from too many veggies You must be drained with everything Julie. Too right you are delegating Christmas....and we've seen you in full organizational mode many a time so get the Fambo on board and all mucking in ...... He definitely hasn't got any of that plug stuck has he?sorry that might have been addressed earlier ,I've just skimmed through the thread when I realised he still wasn't right . Our vets know how I like my tea I was there that often in October!sending you very best wishes x
Re: Sick from too many veggies No, the plug was found (and found not guilty). He seems a bit brighter now but I think I will keep him in the rest of the day. OH says that it's not good for Charlie to walk round dirty London streets (it is Wimbledon, it's not that bad - but it's true there is grime) and he needs to walk on fields and a beach. That is, quite possibly, the most unhelpful and impractical thing OH has said in a while particularly since OH is right now missing the poo cleaning up and is walking along a beach in Cornwall. Going to try 20g of chicken and rice (as vet advised) and see whether we can keep that down...
Re: Sick from too many veggies Your hubby must have missed all the yuky things that Amy finds in the fields! :
Re: Sick from too many veggies Good luck with the chicken and rice..... ....and Riley never finds anything yucky on the beach like dead seagulls and fish....ever! :

Re: Sick from too many veggies Hi Julie just been catching up with you and poor Charlie. What a nightmare ! ! I wouldn't worry too much about testing samples just yet. A broad spectrum works on the majority. From my experience vomiting wasn't a symptom of campylobacter which needs a specific AB. Just get him on antibiotics and pro kolin. An antibiotic injection wold work quicker but prob too late to take him. Did the vet give him an antiemetic injection when you took him. They work wonders although can make them feel uncomfortable for a bit. I do hope things start improving soon. Take care Jen
Re: Sick from too many veggies Thanks so much Jen, that's good to know - really, thank you. The vet did give him an injection, and I did ask what it was but now I've forgotten. He said it was to stop him being sick (it didn't stop him being sick completely, although he hasn't been sick today). I picked up another tube of pro-kolin, so I'm stocked up. He had the first AB and about 3 tablespoons of rice and a tiny bit of shredded chicken about 4 hours ago. So far, so good. I've kept taking him out, but he doesn't go poo, just pee. I'll get up in the night to check, don't want more accidents in his pen again. I haven't walked him again. I don't want to give him kibble (I can walk him without kibble, of course, but I feel I'm at a bit of a breakthrough on the no-sniffing by using the clicker and treats, so if I can just hang on until tomorrow... have put hours in so far : ).
Re: Sick from too many veggies Sorry Julie, keep missing your updates, family woes here too so I empathise . I really am so so sorry for all your troubles and worried with dear Charlie . Please dont add to the stress by thinking you must provide some sort of gastonomic feast , get ready prepared food and claim the accolade I truly hope that Charlie will soon improve , pro kolin is fantastic stuff, always a tube of it in our fridge too , wish I could help or offer more words of comfort , but take care of yourself in this stressful time xxx
Re: Sick from too many veggies Oh Julie I am just catching up and am so sorry to hear Charlie is unwell. You are doing everything you can for your lovely boy. I wish Charlie a very speedy recovery and you less to blinking worry about. Lots of hugs to you and a BIG X to Charlie from me
Re: Sick from too many veggies Julie, how frightful for you. :'( :'( Just want to say, keep your chin up. Don't worry about Christmas - Charlie, you and your work have to come first. Xxxxxx
Re: Sick from too many veggies So sorry, Julie, been restricted on forum time lately with my boys home for Christmas and I'm just catching up as well. I feel so bad that you are going through all this slog. It's all a lot of no-fun right now for you, isn't it. And adding Christmas on top is adding to the stress, I'm sure. But, deep breath. All you can do is your best under the circumstances. And getting together as a family is more important than all the trimmings, anyways....hopefully it will be a short but happy visit and then you can wave goodbye and collapse. Re: the walks - I do a short 15 min max walk first thing, than about 20-30 mins at noon, and 30 mins - 1 hour at night, depending on the weather. Usually closer to 45 mins on average at night. Hope Charlie is feeling better soon. When I've had sick dogs before I usually start with just rice, see how they tolerate that, then gradually add protein in over a day or so. It is worrying that he is still vomiting over these many days. I hope the antibiotics start to work quickly! Keep us posted if you get the time...is your OH coming home soon to help with all this?? Would love to bring over some Christmas baking for you....unfortunately can only send virtual hugs. Prayers as well! Hang in there....one day at a time....
Re: Sick from too many veggies Things are better tonight - a dear, dear, friend came over and helped me sort the house out ready for guests, did all the flowers, helped me shift all the boxes and rubbish from all the new things for Charlie - and brought dinner! What a friend...feel much more in control. Charlie hasn't been sick again, has kept chicken and rice and ABs down, and poo slightly less runny... So looking up. OH will come back tomorrow to an organised house, with lovely flowers, a puppy who seems much better - and wonder why I was fussing. : : :
