Hey all, after a few nights of poor sleep due to family health concerns i am now on track for a third night no sleep with rolo at the centre of my worry'verse.
It started today around 2pm after his lunch and a kong or two, he goes in the garden and he threw up his lunch. Pretty much almost whole. So as per previous advice i let him eat it. Then a few hours later he vommited again, this time more liquid like. Not to worry i think, he is eating, drinking and seems normal. So i dont allow him to eat this lot, and clear it up and go to bed after an hour of checking hes ok.
My OH wakes me up. Hes been sick again. I clean again and another hour goes by and i return to bed. Ensuring he has had water so he isnt dehydrated. In bed my senses are on pins, i her a slight noise. Go down there is a sick stain on his crate and blannket. I called the vets, not an emergency they say, he is enthusaistc to eat, drinking and not lethargic. I just dont know what to do it isnt like him
Im trying to think what he could have eaten which doesnt agree with him.
I cant stay awake much longer i feel delerius but worry is winning right now.
Is the change in consistency of the sick i.e solid to liqquid something to worry about?

If it were me, I'd take him to the Vet as soon as he opens. But I'm told I'm a little crazy protective where it comes to my boy. If he's sick once, I clean it up (I know that's in defiance of current wisdom) and let him skip that meal (hoping his stomach will settle down) and then I put him immediately on steamed chicken for a week or so. If he doesn't vomit again and is active and drinking well, all is good - but if he continues vomiting after feeding again later (with the steamed chicken), it's off to the Vet we go.

Thanks for the advice and kind words.
I mistakenly didnt alter his food pattern after the first vommit. He will be skipping breakfast and off to our normal vet who knows him first thing. I was just worrying as to wether he was an emergency, the out of hours vets said they advice seeing my own vet but i could take him there if i wanted to. I havent heard a peep for 45 minutes now so hopfully he is getting some rest.

When does he vomit? Sparky would vomit when he is hyper excited. They say its a bad sign if they vomit and would not try to eat his vomit.

Hope you get some rest! Sounds to me that the change from solid to liquid could be because he has nothing left in his stomach? I wouldn't worry if he is fine otherwise, but see how he is in the morning and then take him to the vet if you are still concerned.

We had a similar situation with Quinn a couple weekends ago. Seems to happen every couple of months. I take her off her food and feed scrambled eggs and see how that goes and slowly reintroduce her kibble (I don't like to starve if she's acting hungry). This last time, she vomited 3 days in a row (twice full meals; once on an empty stomach). We took her to the vet and they couldn't tell if it was something she ate or a bug so put her on Gastro food for a few days. She did ok on that so we didn't go back. I would monitor and visit vet if he is sick again the following day or stops eating/drinking. I give Quinn ice cubes to make sure she is getting enough water.

I hope Rolo is feeling better this morning and that you eventually manage to get some much needed sleep.

Poor boy. I hope his tummy settles soon. It's horrible when they are poorly. Can you try and have a nap during the day when he's asleep? Might help you feel a bit less tired.

So pleased to read that it's a suspected bug. What a worry it has been for you! I'd be offering him flavored water to ensure he's hydrated - you can add tuna flakes or fish to his water and I'm sure he'll gulp it up. This morning I was taking the water from the steamer pot to water plants outside. We'd been steaming sweet potato. Well, Snowie was very curious so I let him have a lick. Do you think the plants got any of it? He lapped it up completely!
