Hi all, I know this will have been posted many times before but just wanted to share our experience and see what people's thoughts/advice is please. Our puppy is 9 weeks and 4 days and is doing really well with us. Our night time "routine" is this: 9:45pm - wake up, wee, play for 45mins (this is really hard to keep her awake) 10:30pm - wee and then crate for bed time 4am - we set an alarm and get up to let her out for toilet. This time has gradually increased from 3am to 4am over 10 days and we will continue to push it back 5-10 minutes a night. 7-7:15am - up for toilet and breakfast. Is this good? Are we doing the right thing? Realistically in a few weeks will we get her to sleep from 10:30pm - 7am or is it too big an ask? Thanks in advance.
Re: Sleep advice Sounds great to me! Whether she will be able to cope all night in a few weeks will depend on her, I think from having read other similar questions, but it sounds like she's doing fantastically already. My Willow, who is 11 weeks tomorrow, had a night with an upset tummy about a week ago and it really set her back, so I now get up at 4:30 after going to bed at midnight. But she often wakes me earlier needing the loo (she actually goes when I take her out, so I know it's not just attention she's after), although other nights, she's fast asleep when I go in at the alarm. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason, but I'll be pushing the time of the alarm later and later and, if she has to wake me up earlier, so be it. If your puppy would wake you if she needed to go out, you may as well keep on pushing that time back and see what happens!
Re: Sleep advice Hi It sounds like what you are doing is working, so carry on I'm one of the lucky ones whose pup slept 11pm-7am at 4.5 months old. At 14 months, on a weekend, she will often sleep 11pm - 10/11am
Re: Sleep advice Thanks! She doesn't wake us ever to be honest, we normally have to encourage her out of the crate but she always goes to the toilet within 10 seconds of getting out of the house! Will keep on as we are and hope she carries on being good with it.
Re: Sleep advice Sounds like you're doing well The other thing we did which can work if you're sharing the load was one person would let the pup out at midnight and the other person would get up early. This saved anyone the real middle of the night trips. Then we'd add 19-15 mins at one end or the other. They're all different but my 13 week old spaniel is doing 10:30-6:00 which is reasonable. Looking forward to him making it til 7! Occasionally he does but he's not quite there yet.
Re: Sleep advice Well I must be one of the really lucky ones because my pup starting sleeping from about 9pm to 6:00am at 9 weeks old. She doesn't actually whine at 6am either, that's just when we get up for work during the week.
Re: Sleep advice Inca at 11 weeks is now able to go 11pm - 6am and to be honest I will probably keep her at that until we take her down to 3 feeds a day in a week's time. In the early days I never thought we would manage to get to this point!

My two were both sleeping 'till I woke them up by 16 weeks. They still do and I can get up as late as I want, they still snooze away! (5 months and 18 months)
Re: Sleep advice Quick update! Now going from 10:30 to 4:45am - it's so nice seeing the progress you can make in a week! Good now we have Ruby in a routine. 2-3 weeks an I reckon we'll be there. I can't wait!!
Re: Sleep advice Inca was on a similar routine to Ruby and now at 12 weeks she is going from 10.30pm to 6.30am. Feels amazing to have a full 8 hours sleep back again! Won't be long before you get there too!
