Hi everyone! My name is JoAnn and I’m glad to be a part of this group. I have an 11 y/o Lab, Jake. Jake always sleeps with me. All of a sudden now, he will get up on the bed and lay down for about 10 minutes then leave and will go and lay down in the living room on his mat or lay down in the hallway. Not sure why he is doing this. Is it a senior thing? On a few occasions I have slept on the couch during storms which he is edgy about. I almost feel like he is trying to lure me back out there. Any ideas on this? Thank you!
Hi JoAnn, they can start doing 'odd' things as they age. We have always had a very strict No Dogs Upstairs rule, but our oldest has started sleeping in the bedroom. To be fair, at 16, she can sleep where she likes. As with any sudden behaviour changes, it might be worth just having the vet giving him a once over to check that there is nothing amiss x
Thank you. The more I’m observing him, I think he is trying to lead me out to the living room to sleep there. Before he gets off the bed, he looks at me…like hoping I’ll follow. He even came in and woke me up and waited to see if I would get up and then he laid out in the hall. I’m going to keep a watch on him for any other clues. Other than that he is his normal self. Hi JoAnn. Not particularly lab specific. Had several dogs that once they entered the senior years the sleep patterns changed. That included wanting to go in different rooms. I admit it worried me every time but unless you note other changes in behaviour such as suddenly becoming "guarding" over things it shouldn't be course for concern.be Chris
Thank you. He has some allergies right now but other than that, he is his usual self. I do keep a close eye on him since he is getting older. Again, thank you for your response….JoAnn
