I really shouldn't post this, I know some of you might be shocked. Yes, you Angela, I have seen your beautiful clean home. Anyway, I wonder sometimes who is the bigger slob, Otis or me, it is so easy to just let everything slip ! I go around frequently with a carrier bag to pick up bits of rubbish Otis has managed to get hold of and chew, then theres this habit we have of now, where I say, down, and put my plate down and he licks it before it goes in the washer. He sleeps on my bed and the sofa, he counter surfs, and I don't wipe down the counter every time he does it, everytime i sweep up, theres a mound, and the rugs are rolled up waiting to be cleaned. I have muddy prints on my kitchen floor, and I leave it. Lets face it, Otis has taught me to be a slob, or was i just one anyway ! xx
Re: slobadog Your house sounds very similar to mine Maggie I generally hoover once or twice a week max. I go round with a carrier bag like you collecting all the demolished toys/paper/cardboard etc every day. My lounge backs onto my garden which is very muddy at the minute so I give up washing the floor - I tend to do it once a week with the steamer now. I used to be very house proud........some rooms such as the kitchen, office, games room and bathrooms are all clean, the others not so much : it is now lived in (well, that's my excuse) ;D
Re: slobadog
Clean and tidy is over-rated
I'd actually heard that it was a myth and nobody really has a house like that
Re: slobadog My house used to be clean and tidy. I'd go so far to say it was nearly elegant. It's muddy and jumbled now. I don't think it's so much a function of Charlie himself messing things up, as now my spare time is spent training my dog instead of hoovering.

Although my house was never even approaching elegant, it was clean! Having said that, I came home from walking/training Shadow yesterday morning and walked in on DH cleaning. He's a good'un
Re: slobadog Obi has assisted me to express my inner slob as well. It's a loving thing our Labradors do to help us let go of the things that really aren't important
Re: slobadog This all sounds very reassuring. Can you multiply the mud/muddle by the number of labs in the house and feel even less guilty?
Re: slobadog Oh yes. The degree of squalour must be directly proportional to the number of dogs while the level of guilt is inversely proportional. Basically, the more dogs, the more mess, and the greater your degree of psychological health.

Re: slobadog Aaaargh! Does that mean my house has to become cleaner and tidier as Mira gets older? Nobody told me that bit!!
;D ;D ;D ;D Maggie , sand and yellow hair just don't show up as much as mud and chocolate / black hair....and I have to admit to having help so I have no excuse !!! Chris's aunt always says ' Life's too short to stuff a mushroom!' And the same can be said about all other things domestic when you have a Labrador to love xxxx
Re: slobadog Bit of muck is good for the immune system When my kids were young I had two categories. Clean dirt (general rubbish and clutter) and dirty dirt (toilets etc and some food prep areas). I ignored the first and cleaned the second. We all stayed remarkably healthy.
Re: slobadog Ooh I seem to be in the minority :-[ I wash my hall/boot room walls and skirting boards down once a week as I can't stand the mud splats :-[ :-[ I clean every day, not to excess, but I have to run an ordered clean and tidy home housing at times all four children, two adults and 2 dogs - sorry I think I really need to sort myself out xx
Re: slobadog Don't worry, Helen, we are all secretly envious I would LIKE my home to be clean all the time. But, in the harsh glare of reality, I've just given up caring :
Re: slobadog We are all different Helen - as long as we are happy with the way we do things then that is just fine I like the idea of my house being spick and span, but when it comes to actually making it happen it falls way down my list of priorities/time schedule :-[ I have learnt to live with the disappointment in myself, and slight jealousy of disciplined people like you ;D
