The SBD is 6 years old and nowadays spends most of the day fast asleep on the sofa. She's often snoring on her back with her legs waving in the air. Of course there's always the occasional foray to the window and much alarm barking to tell me the postman/Amazon/other delivery man is approaching (much better than the door bell!). Then there's the odd visit to her toy box and the presentation of a toy to entice me to stop working and play for a while, but mainly she curls up for a long sleep. I used to worry that I wasn't doing enough with her and that she was bored out of her mind (oh, she's just woken up and gone to investigate the kitchen where there is the sound of mixing bowls being scraped out. ), but if that was true I think she'd be wrecking the place. So on balance I think she is a very contented Small Black Dog. What about yours?
Sounds like a very happy Small Black Dog! I hope your Amazon parcels are always dog toys - Tuppence gets very disappointed when they're not. I'm currently putting off opening the latest because it contains a washing bag for dog beds and I don't think she's going to find that very exciting! Mine are both asleep in their day beds, so all is peaceful ... for the moment. Wispa (now four) has become more chilled, but Tuppence (two) is still hyper / hungry / asleep - in no particular order, but I could tell the time by her ...!
Juno enjoys her walks and her games of fetch in the garden and our play on the floor together after dinner but apart from that she is happy to crash on her bed in the kitchen, curl up by my feet in the kitchen, sprawl on her bed in the lounge or across my feet. As we've not long been home from our walk and play fetch in the garden she is happily crashed by my feet
She sounds like a happy girl, alright. Charlie is much more chilled in the house these days, but he pretty much wants to be doing stuff - he spends his life waiting for his next thing in his routine. I have firm cues that let him know it's settle down time (when I have to work), and I ignore him. He'll then settle. But if anyone makes the mistake of interacting with him, he will not leave them alone, and will want to play constantly. Training wears him out, and I know when his little chocolate furry mind is tired because he sleeps, and sleeps deeply.
Sometimes we don't see Lilly from one end of the day to the next unless we venture into the kitchen or sound like we are going out...... She likes our bed.
Well things are a bit manic here with 3 labradors in our rather small cottage! Casper would sleep all day if he had the chance...Benson and Blake have completely opposite sleep patterns, so at any one time...either Benson or Blake are creating merry hell with Casper groaning and moaning at them from the sofa. Currently Blake is flinging some sort of plastic container around the front room...sigh...
Riley's four and a half and he's just reached the stage where he doesn't ALWAYS follow me from one room to another
I love it when they do that, . I can set my watch by Mabel, she gets out of her crate at 8.00 has breakfast and chills on the sofa watching the school children go to school. First walk at 9.00, then she either plays and chills on her blankets in the hall. We have a short training session during the morning. Then a big snooze until we go out for our second walk at 14.30. When we come back she sleeps until tea time at 17.00. She's usually snoring her head off by 7.30, head on my lap. Lovely and cosy. Especially this week as OH is on business in Paris, so I have my choccie girl and tv remote all to myself, bliss. At 9.55 she gets up and goes in her crate.
Poppy is very, very chilled during the day. Unless she hears the sound of pots and pans rattling, or the dummy bag being moved...
Ella is 7months so still a bit loopy at times but she does settle and tends to snooze on and off throughout the day. If I stay in the room she could sleep for hours but if I get up and move around the house she MUST follow me everywhere! She also has that nutty time around 8pm where anything is possible haha ☺ My OH loves to play stupid games with her so this is his time to shine and if she brings a toy to me when she's being a nutter I just say "take it to dad" ☺ I can definitely tell if she wants some attention as she'll steal anything she can get hold of and parade it around in front of you to get a reaction. The one day she stole a sock and ran off but came running back when she realised we'd ignored her. She spent the next ten minutes trying to get us to react while we tried to pretend we hadn't seen her (and unsuccessfully tried to keep a straight face haha). Sometimes we dream of the day that she settles down but secretly I'm not so sure we're looking forward to it as she has is laughing our heads off every day and this always makes up for the more trying times
MaccieD I'm living in a state of denial about the whole 9 month old puppy and new born baby situation! At this stage I'm thinking that by then Ella will be a perfectly behaved and trained dog and our baby will be the perfect sleeper and feeder! Easy hey?! ☺☺
Emily I'm sure it's going to be fine. Ella is a lovely little girl who is very responsive to training and of course growing up a bit more each day. I wonder I you can clicker train a baby?
Hmmm.. There's a thought I'd already considered crate training ☺ Ella is a good girl most of the time but at the end of the day she's still a Labrador puppy and we all know what that's like! ☺☺☺
And we wouldn't want them to be any different . I love to see Juno having fun and running around like a mad thing. She still loves to mad zoomies around the garden, usually as part of our fetch play time. It's a great way for them to expend some energy . Hmmm crate training for a baby sounds quite a good idea but I think there may be some laws against it, seems reasonable to me though
My friend applies some of th dog training techniques she's leaned over the years with her daughter, they do work. We really laugh about it. Shes now 5 and behaving like an angel one minute and a small very angry drunk that wont sleep. next time my friend feels like she might want a baby she's going to get a puppy. The whole thing just makes me giggle.
Mine 3 have always been very chilled. Dougs old so sleeps a lot but at 3 pm he likes to play with the others, when the excitment for 4pm tea time starts. They all relax and are great to be around Rory still needs to play and lot but thats just the fun of a 2 year old. He's a lot less demanding than he was, he's also taking queues from Doug. They take an interest in what I'm up to and join in if they can. They all get exercised seperately now due to age and different needs thats hard but they all get what they need that way. The sweetest thing ever happened this week when Doug joined the bitey face game with the other 2 and they because of his lack of mobility brought the game to him. They were so lovely with him and made sure he got in on the action. I love having 3 dogs
That sounds really lovely. The bond between them must be very strong and their concern for each other is something to admire. Thank you for sharing with us.
