Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Julie, my friend's springer had a cruciate injury about the same time as Charlie, followed by a reconstruction. Unfortunately the same happened to her other leg a few weeks ago. She is now recovering from another reconstruction. It is such a worry.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly More worrying than small children these dogs! At least with a child you can ask where it hurts and tell them to take care. With Lady, I wonder if she might have a floater in the joint that occasionally snags up.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Keep us posted on how Lady does today, David.
Julie, my friend's springer had a cruciate injury about the same time as Charlie, followed by a reconstruction. Unfortunately the same happened to her other leg a few weeks ago. She is now recovering from another reconstruction. It is such a worry.
Yes, that is very typical timing, to do the second within a year or so of the first. I'm taking Charlie back to the surgeon this month for his year after the op check up, and have decided we'll do a full set of x-Rays and tests on both legs. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen...at least I won't have to wait, I'll use the same suppliers as last time, and know exactly what to do.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly This is really wierd. Lady was pretty lame last night to the extent she was really struggling to walk at all. This morning she was a little better but I only gave her a minimal toilet walk. By the time we got back she wasn't noticeably limping. I had to go out mid morning so rather than leave her at home alone I popped her in the car and took her with me. I stopped at a car park in the Ashdown Forest and got her out for a little paddle around. She took off! Hooning around as usual. Got back home about an hour ago and she's been presenting toys to me for her usual butt tuck chase around the dining room table followed by a tug-of-war. She's absolutely normal again. I'm wondering now if there's something floating around in the joint that snags her every now and again. If it happens again I might take her to the vet for a look over. No point at the moment as you truly wouldn't believe there could have been anything wrong last night. Hmmmm! Puzzled in Lingfield.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly That is odd. Glad she's ok again at the moment - but definitely a bit strange. Maybe it wasnt the joint at all, could she just have pulled a muscle or hurt her foot or something?
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly No it was definitely her left elbow. I checked all her paws last night when she first went lame and nothing found, then when I eventually got her home I tried flexing her left front which was the one she wouldn't weight bear on and she was very tense and wouldn't allow me to bend the elbow more than a very little. By contrast there was no problem with her right elbow.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Poor Lady, here's hoping she recovers quickly and it's nothing to worry about xxx
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Well, Helen, it's a complete mystery at the moment. From unable to walk yesterday evening to nothing wrong this afternoon. I'll have to keep an eye on it because there may be something going on in her elbow.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Maybe she felt a bit better but didn't want to miss out on a road trip with you ....when the car stopped she forgot she should be woebegone and had a good old hoon ;D ? Glad she seems to have got over it though ....any injury like this must worry you terribly with her history x
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Yes you can't help being constantly aware of it, but what I find most odd about this current episode is how it just cleared up. If you'd seen the state she was in last night today's dramatic recovery doesn't seem possible. When I took her out in the car I lifted her in and lifted her out so she didn't jump. Getting in the car on the way back the SBD didn't give me a chance to lift and just leapt into the back of the car as happy as Larry. She's giving me the steady Labrador stare at the moment lying contentedly on both elbows on the floor. If I get a repeat I think I'll whisk her straight to the vet to see if we can find out what's going on.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Well that's good news! Bit of a mystery though. 'Floater' hypothesis sounds pretty plausible to me. Also the pain relief must've helped.
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Yes I thought so too re the floater. I've got one in one of my knees (or a torn cartilage) - can't remember which as it hasn't caught me for several years now, but excruciating at the time .
Re: Small Black Dog Strains Elbow Badly Glad Lady is a bit better. Sounds like a floater to me too. Poor girl. I guess she's notogoing for the sympathy vote this time
