My 6 month old chocolate lab Coco seems to be a bit on the smaller side.Hes around 18inches from his withers and weighs in around 50lbs.His dad was a gun dog,and I know gunners are generally smaller and more athletic than the English lab breed. He just seems to be small for his age and I'm worried he hasn't had a growth spurt since he was 4 months old or it doesn't seem that way anyway. The neighbours lab also called Coco is 8 months and a good bit bigger than my Coco.He is a healthy happy pup overall I just thought he would be bigger for his age by now.
Hi @Rach2019 Welcome to the site. He should not stop growing until 10th or 11th month. Has he been neutered? If you have there is a candidate for his small stature. If not, delay the decision.
50lb (23kg) for a 6 month old pup sounds fine to me. Mine 2 are working lines and have just hit 23kg at 10 months old. I also have 3 adults ranging between 22kg and 24kg.
Cooper was about 54# at 6 months, though she was 22" at the withers. She is 75-80# now and close to 25" Tall lanky gun dog, she is much like her parents.
Ava is 20 months old now and weighs 20kg - the smallest lab I've seen but gorgeous. Everyone still asks if she is a puppy. Even the Vet calls her micro lab!
My girl too is 20kgs (44lbs) and 2.5 years. Most people think she’s still a pup. I love her small stature.
My boy is 12 months old and 24kg. He is still filling out, but probably won't gain too much weight as long as we don't let him get fat! Think of it this way, you can fit more of them on your lap for cuddles.
