My lab (1 yr old) has started sneezing a lot. Can high pollen count cause this? Started giving lab 2 benedryl starting today.

Hi Terry and welcome to the forum. Dogs certainly can get hayfever or allergies to other things. How long has it been going on? Most dogs are only allergic to one type of pollen, which means it will only last a few weeks. You'll normally notice gooey eyes and nasal discharge at the same time. If it is this, you can ease the problems by giving his face a wash with a damp cloth after every walk.
I know antihistamines can be used on dogs with allergies, but I have no idea of how much is safe. Have you checked with your vet that the dosage of Benadryl is suitable? When I take it, I only take one (since they ones I use are one-a-day). I would recommend giving the vet a call and clarifying.

He may have something stuck up his nose? I wouldn't use medication until you have a definitive diagnosis of an allergy.

He may have someting stuck up his nose. I agree with Snowbunny that I would check with my vet first before giving medication, just make sure it is an allergy and nothing else.

Sneezing may also be a due to an upper respiratory tract infection, even the beginnings of kennel cough, just like us going down with a cold. Worth a visit to the vet as the others have said.
