Brave Rory has cut his pad its not deep or bleeding just a tiny bit of fluid leaking out so I'm trying to get him into the vets today or tomorrow. It won't needs stitches and I don't think anythingis in it but he's being so good about it. He really is such a good boy he's let me look at even though it hurts, I just can't believe how good he's getting he's turning into a sensible boy. So upset he's hurt himself I seem to be at the vets all the time at the minute. Whats the best thing to bathe the foot in until i can get him seen? He's not licking it and he's walking ok I just want to try to keep it clean until I can get some anti biotic cover.
Ah bless ,how do you think he's injured it? vet trips seem to come in runs like this don't they...Definatepy get it checked out and listen to your vet but 'when Dexter grazed his paw pads I got an antiseptic and I think antibiotic cream from the vet ...and it was dressed and bandaged......I couldn't get it to heal for anything ,it was wet and greasy all the time so I took everything off and bathed it with cooled boiled salt water ( my Mum's cure all for everything human and canine) it dried up and was better within the day....just to add whilst it was undressed someone was supervising him or he had a cone on ....the licking as with everything makes it worse ::
I'll try that he's being very brave I don't think its too bad and I think some anti biotic cover should sort it. Salt water seems to really help with a lot of things. It very wet here at the moment and the rivers have been running fast its disturbed the river beds and I think he's caught it on a stone or some glass or metal? He's a bit of a waterbaby so he has to be decanted on most walks.
Poor boy. Harley has had cut laws and it took about 6 days to heal. I put sudocreme on it twice a day and kept a close eye on her to make sure she wasn't licking it. It does seem to go in spats when you are in the vets all the time.......we are going through one at the minute!
He was such a good boy at the vets I was so proud of him, he charmed the vet and got loads of cuddles and even though he was worried he let the vet do everything he needed to. Its things like that that make me fall in love (Rory not the vet)with him all over again he just so sweet. Fortunatley he has only just nicked the pulp part of his pad and even though the slash is big its not deep. We've been lucky no stitches or superglue just a short course of anti biotics, short careful walks and keep it dry. I'll just get him a little boot and hope the rain stops. He really is becoming a lovely dog and all the hard work is starting to pay off, its been a long time coming with Rory but I can see what hes going to become and always could, I just have to learn to trust him and let him take things at his own pace. He's starting to develop that can handle this attitude which I love about labradors its taken time and a lot of patience with him but slowly he becoming a very stable dog. I had a very ill dog for about 8 years and I thought that once he had gone I might spend a little less time at the vets clearly I thought wrong.
Ah glad it doesn't seem too serious and that he coped well with the examination.....good luck now keeping it dry,I'll bring some nice weather with me in the next couple of days to help mend Rory x
It rained(really hammered down) all day so we all sulked on the sofa but at least his paw was nice and dry
