Best of luck with it, it will all settle down, I'm sure. I had days pulling my hair out when Charlie was younger and I didn't have the added complication of having a dog that had been rehomed!

You will have days like these, I have had MANY ::). Don't be too hard on yourselves, it's very difficult taking on a rescue dog as I know only too well. Keep going and we are all here when you need to rant. Helen x

Kinda started peeing on the floor literally the same day I let him up on the sofa. He went weeks without doing it and just like that he thought it was acceptable.

Maby its the same for him too?

I do not believe that any dog is capable of such complex reasoning :D

He is probably doing it either because he is young and has had a lapse in toilet training (maybe was left a little longer than he can wait) or because he is anxious for some reason, or because he is marking his 'favourite things' with his scent.

Personally I would keep him off the furniture unless doing so makes him more anxious, not because this has anything to do with dominance, but because urine marking males may be tempted to mark things and places that they like. A bit like the way cats rub their cheeks on everyone they like and on the corners of your chairs etc

If the marking is just a lapse in toilet training, or anxiety related, it should resolve quite easily. Bear in mind that sometimes, marking in male dogs is hormone driven and that is why it arises as the dog becomes sexually mature.

If this is the case with your dog, he will probably continue to do it until and unless he is neutered.

Just catching up on this thread, sorry to hear you've been having troubles. I think all dogs go through phases where we need to maybe adjust the way we are with them. Any 'quirks' our lot have I know are my fault, because these 3 have all come to us as young puppies.
But in the past when we've gotten a dog at an older stage, as you did with Jack, there have been traits that don't come to light immediately. I think you'll be able to work through it with help from more knowledeable folks than me! Just wanted to say I know how it feels, hang in there! They're worth it. x
