Socialisation and bonkers puppy

    Another thought, which is relevant for this thread and your other thread about training classes - have you seen the book on 'life skills for puppies'?

    It takes the view that puppy training shouldn't be focused on actions (can the dog sit/stay/lie down/whatever) but on building skills - to be confident, calm, to handle frustration, to listen. I think it's quite helpful to think about training classes in those terms - what are the bigger lessons/messages that your puppy is learning and do they contribute to those fundamental skills?

    We had some pretty terrible puppy classes but by far the best ones we found were based on the puppy life skills model, and they were totally positive-reinforcement (paws 4 training in Norfolk, if anyone is in that area).

    Yip, we have all done stuff we wish we could change and that is what is awesome about dogs. They forgive so well. That is why they are not human. :)
