Re: Sofa question! Do you know, it sounds very childish, but I was very angry about it at the time. George was a healthy, cared for young dog. We've lost old dogs too many times before, especially with a rescue dog, you don't get nearly long enough. But with George, it seemed like he was being cheated. He had a frozen face, vestibular syndrome, like a stroke in humans. Possibly due to an aggressive ear infection, so we treated for that. Then within a week, his food was falling from his mouth, he couldn't stand, and his legs were making involuntary movements making him fall hitting his face several times, it was just awful. So fast, and nasty. Then the tests showed it was a tumour on the brain causing the damage, not ear infection. So from taking him to vet for initial concerns it was about 10 days. If it could be worse, it was when my daughter was doing a crutial part of basic training, so we had to keep it from her until that was finished, another 2 weeks. So we were in limbo until then. But now when I look back I think we were lucky to have him even if only for 4 years. When we got Harry 18 months later, our vet was crying and hugging me saying she'd been so worried about me at the time. Well, that's me in tears! I wish I'd had this forum at the time. Here's George, pretty boy. Quite slight for a Bernese. Very afectionate, gave the best cuddles.
Re: Sofa question! Oh goodness, I'm in tears now. Poor boy....must've been awful for you all. You're right though, no matter how long we have them for, cherish every moment. They're just not here long enough even if they live to be old dears.
Re: Sofa question! You can see the character and the soul of him which shines out of his face. I am so sorry that you had to lose him in such a shocking way.
Re: Sofa question! George is an absolute beauty. So sorry that you lost him so young and in such a distressing way :'(
Re: Sofa question! TM my parents lost a setter at 4 to a brain tumour so I know a little what you went through, you are right, you feel robbed and it is so distressing ,Sally was boarding with the nurse at their vet practice whilst mum and dad were in Italy( apart from Dubai that was their last trip abroad it upset them so much)she was out to sleep while they were away,it was awful.George was just a beautiful dog ,I bet he was loved and loved in the time you had him x
Re: Sofa question! So sad....we were considering a Bernese, they're just so beautiful and cuddly :'( x
Re: Sofa question! As you all know ( and have been so kind and helpful about ) Dexter has been poorly the last 24 hours. Chris and I were invited to an engagement party last night.it wasn't an option to leave Dex alone ,and we felt dreadful cancelling an invite at the last minute so I nipped out for a little while and Chris minded the patient... Er just having a glass of wine and a chat now and Dexter jumps up on the couch next to me......?strange,he never does that ......Chris looks a bit sheepish and tells me that in my absence last night, this was how they spent their eve.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/97066992@N03/9838603854/ Secretly I'm a little bit jealous!!! Also he must be feeling better if he can jump up on the couch !he wouldn't have even tried this morning x
Re: Sofa question! I know,i couldnt have been cross, they were both so chuffed with themselves!....Dexter has chanced his luck a couple of times tonight,as much as I've worried myself to bits over him today Ive not let him take advantage ...........it's still, down on the floor for cuddles ...unless Hudad is in charge!!!! ;D
Re: Sofa question! Look at Dexter's face - what a grin! Let that dog on the sofa Angela! How can you resist?
