OK, I am writing this with EVERYTHING crossed. For the last 3 days my daughter Grace is back from Uni and has been walking and training Charlie, she has had him off lead and he has been TROTTING, yes TROTTING infront or behind her (she has photographic evidence!!) one day he didn't even go for a run and stayed with her, this is amazing for our rescue boy Charlie I can assure you who was once upon a time an absconder  He slipped up yesterday and went on a 15 minute excursion but she didn't let that put her off and today he was a star only stretching his legs for a run and he waited for her at the end of the long hedge, not brilliant I know but for Charlie this is. Charlie met two girlie Labradors they all had a sniff and he wasn't in the slightest bit interested in them, Grace called him and he walked off lead with her all the way down the long track, so he is getting about 50 - 75% ish time off lead. Grace changes direction, hides and he keeps looking back to check on her, she puts him on lead and then off so he doesn't know what is going to happen AND he walked beautifully on his harness too :D. We hardly use any recall with Charlie as we save them up so he is showing self control :)

As always it could fall apart but for now it's just great, so proud of Grace and Charlie :D:D xxx

That's sounds really good, and that Charlie is being such a good boy with Grace. It never ceases to amaze me how different our pups can be with other people/members of the family :). Fingers crossed that it continues and goes from strength to strength. :D

I don't think it will fall apart Helen. The odd blip maybe but Charlie has come a long way there's no going back. There's a long summer ahead with Grace for him to keep improving and he will. Charlie is a 'normal' dog. ☺️

Brilliant news! I guess Charlie will probably always have the odd blip, we just have the dogs we we do I guess. I have noticed that you have made a lot big steps forward with only some really minor steps back over the last several months.:)

Thanks everyone, I can't take all the credit it's mostly David and Grace that have taught him. Grace just got back from a 100% off lead walk with the smallest slip up at the very end when he saw a bloomin' Cat in the paddock, it ran, Charlie ran back under the stile but did come straight back. So very nearly perfect!!!

Kate you are so right he will always have little set backs and that's just how we look at it now, he will never, ever be perfect but he is far better than he was when he arrived so that's progress. Charlie will be Charlie!! :) xx

Ternaya, I am really enjoying having Grace back and I hope you are with Orianna xx :D

Thank you Angela, it's been a week with mostly off lead and no big mess ups so far, Charlie is being ever so good and really enjoyed his off lead group walk on Sunday, he milled around with all the other dogs and only went on one excursion, damn hare!! Tim could hardly believe his eyes at the speed Charlie travels at!! We may just have turned a corner after all this time :D xx
