Hi Tanya and welcome to the forum :)

Did the vet think it might be an infection?

Pollen can cause irritation in the eyes. Sometimes, if eyes are weepy due to pollen, the problem is the grittiness of the pollen in the eye (rather than an allergy). The most common symptoms of an allergy in dogs are itchiness or skin problems though. Hope your vet is able to get to the bottom of it. If an allergy is a possibility then you could chat to your vet about seeing a specialist in this area.

My boy was the same at that age. First Vet visit we found he did have conjunctivitis. It cleared up with meds but weepy eyes came back. Back to the Vet who cultured some eye goober, pronounced him clear of infection still and she said it's not uncommon with puppies for their eyes to react to stuff in the environment they'd not been exposed to before. She told me to clean with a clean warm, wet cloth gently but it would most likely go away on it's own. Wha'd'ya know, it did, took about a month all told. Hope you find the same and your girl clears up too, but yeah, back to the Vet to be sure. Oh, my VEt said I could use human Polysporin for eyes, it might soothe them, but I couldn't find any.

Hi there ,In his first year my dog had a few episodes of red ,gunky eyes, one of them was conjunctivitis which was treated with medication. We live in Dubai so Dexter is exposed to a very dusty environment ,when the redness was reoccurring vet suggested me trying an eye wash solution that you can buy from the pharmacy called Tears Au Naturel and after particularly sandy walks I would 'wash' Dexter's eyes with it ....this really helped a lot in preventing them getting to the gunky stage.also to mention that irritated eyes are quite common when they are young as they need to 'grow' into their

    Sorry wifi gone mad again....

Faces...this sounds odd I know ,but there is quite a lot of loose skin around their faces that will fill out as they mature.I still flush Dexter's eyes now if I think he's a bit dusty and same as Snowshoe I bathe/'wash' his face and eyes with cooled boiled water and we haven't had eyes problems for ages x

Thank you for all the great comments I was at the vet again this morning and low and behold he says its conjunctivitis again so different drops this time twice a day instead of six so I hope it's not going to be a recurring problem for her but I will be washing her face every trip to the park from now on

Good to hear that you've got a better idea of what's going on. Does it seem to be improving or is it too soon to tell?

My Pomeranian has bad allergies when the pollen is bad. I was spending a lot of money on eye drops from the vet when finally one vet told me to buy human polysporin eye drops. Now whenever he has a flare up I use it and it always clears it up.
