This weekend was all about dog walkies at ADANA, a private shelter in Estepona, run mainly by ex-pats. There were walks in the countryside around the shelter, plus an expedition down to the port. The dogs were very well behaved with the exception of when my dog for the walk, Buddy, decided to nick a fuzzy keychain from a market vendor and I wasn't quick enough to keep it out of his mouth. I thought we were both going to get done in for shoplifting! Feel free to do the "guess the breed" game. And if you fall in love, all dogs are for adoption and can travel to the UK. Buddy the shoplifter... Puppy Austin... Beautiful Bobo... Messi goes for a ride...wee!!!!! Mr. Congeniality Luc charms the tourists... Luc and Buddy before Buddy embarks on his crime spree... Messi (with Bobo and Anna in the background) hits the mountain trail... All worn out!
Lovely bunch of dogs You don't waste any time, though - 5 days in the car and you're straight back to helping with the shelter dogs!
More walkies today, so a few more photos. A new arrival - only 4 weeks old and look at those feet... A Nelly doppelgänger who got adopted today! Messi and Bobo walk excellently together (even if I got the leads all twisty)... Another shot of beautiful Bobo... And very silly puppy Messi...
That's what the shelter worker said - he said they can tell from the teeth. I thought he was closer to 8-10 weeks, but they said no way. I'm no puppy expert, so don't know what to think. Going back tomorrow to give him another cuddle, though.
Crickey, he's going to be pony-sized at this rate! He's very cute. Is he the only one of his litter mates to make it to the shelter?
If he's a Spanish mastiff mix, as most large dogs are in this area of Spain, he will indeed be pony-sized. When I was holding him, I was sure he was a Lab/Pointer, but after looking at the photos and his ear set, plus them telling me he's only 4 weeks old, he could have a touch of mastiff. But who knows, he could end up being a delicate little pointer crossy thing! The short fur is kind of confusing, as mastiff mixes are usually fluffy things, especially as pups. Plus not a hint of a neck waddle or the extra toes...so I'm sticking by my Lab/Pointer guess. He was found alone on the road, most probably dumped because he has a little hernia that needs repair (you can see it just below my hand in the photo). I would be very surprised if he lasts at the shelter long before someone snatches him up.
