So furious does anyone else have a problem with K***s feeding their dogs when you are out walking? what do you do? A total fool fed Rory yesterday as he walked passed on the park. When I asked what she though she was doing she reply I just gave him a treat, I asked what gave her the right to do this and what the hell had she just fed him? she couldn't tell me so I quizzed further and she said just a treat.. I said i know but whats in it? Oh just chicken. I saw red and said well he's intolerant of chicken so you have just poisoned my dog. I told her that she must never ever fed my dogs and that if he was ill she would be paying the vet bill. How dare she put my dog in danger what is wrong with people i would never do this. I think she found me a bit of a challenge, he he. Why is necessary to feed other peoples dogs? so worried about him can just imagine what kind of nasty cheap crap she's fed him
I haven't had that problem but I would feel exactly the same. Wonder how she'd feel if you walked along and just forced something in her mouth for her to eat . My pet hate are people who reach out their hand to stroke Juno as we walk pass when I'm asking her to look at me and walk on, she's very good at ignoring people but that's not really the point is it
Some random guy fed my dog a whole Picnic bar at a tourist spot some years ago. He asked if he could pat my dog and then produced this chocolate bar that he shoved in my dog's face - dog of course was delighted and just about swallowed it whole. So, yeah, people sometimes act like your dog is public property...
Blimey, you know I've never had this ......I don't know what people are thinking,I'd never give a dog something without asking the owner first.....basic manners..I do get asked sometimes by people I meet walking if Dexter can have one of their dog's treats as he sits there plaintively gazing at them as if he is starved by me!I always so no,digestive issues aside...he's a nuisance for 'mugging' people then if he thinks he can get a treat off them ...or tries to muscle in when they are rewarding their dog More bad manners from us I hope Rory was ok? X
This happens to guide dogs a lot - of course, their owners don't see it happening - but, if they have friends or family with them they do. Apart from possible allergies it's dangerous to distract a guide dog, their owner could end up falling down stairs etc. A bloke in the park gives biscuits to ours - I say 'please don't, they are allergic' (they aren't) but he forgets by the next time. Of course, if Tatze hears his voice she makes a bee-line for him - grrrrrrrr!
I hope Rory is okay. I've had a few people give Mabel treats. It's absolutely infuriating, for one couple in particular the novelty has now worn off now she is not a puppy. I've had really strong words which isn't like me as I don't like conflict. I'm no doubt off their Christmas card list. She will still bounce all over them (she very rarely jumps up people now she has had her first birthday) apparently "I need to teach her whose boss and this positive clicker training stuff I do sends the wrong message". I told him yesterday that I intend to keep my distance from them.
We happen to meet a Man and his wife sometimes when we are out with the girls, they always have dog biscuits with them. They try and temp the dogs to take them, I have told them on numerous occassions not too but totally ignore me. The last time they tried it, my OH was with me!! He is the one that works the dogs and did not take to kindly this guy trying to give his best working dog a biscuit, at this point I cringed. My OH told him in no uncertain terms to get his own dog if he wanted to feed one, But it was not quite that polite
I have had this a few times! As Harley has such a sensitive tummy I will admit to biting a few heads off when they give her a treat without asking. It is really annoying
When Charlie was a pup, I'd work on his recall on the beach - this particular beach is massive and popular with dog walkers. So a really good place to try keep your distance from people and other dogs and do recall training by calling him between two people and edge closer to distractions. There was a man - spaniel man - that would do everything he could to get Charlie's attention and give him treats. So he'd give him food if Charlie ignored a recall! I had words.... one morning this man practically stalked us round the beach trying to ruin my training. I had extremely strong words in the end. Meet other dog walkers and they said he does it to all dogs! Fancies himself as some kind of pied piper of dogs....what a nutter!
