Larks is still not sleeping through the night and it's starting to wear me out! She is 13 weeks old now. She eats dinner at 5/5:30 and has her last poo around 8:30 and last wee around 9:30-10. Then she goes in her crate and usually doesn't make a sound until between 3:30-5:30 when she goes out and poo's and pee's. I typically get up at 6:30 and having to take her out just a hour or 2 before I get up for the day is exhausting. I'm glad she lets me know she needs out but I'm just wondering if this is typical? Or should she be able to hold it longer? Thank you.
My Twiglet weed in the night 'till 16 weeks. But we had a puppy pen so she weed in there and didn't bother me with it. I'd rather mop up wee in the morning than have broken sleep!
Stanley got up through the night until about 17 weeks. Now he sleeps through no bother - she'll get there!
I can't remember what age my two slept through. I can't remember having to get up for both of them to go out, and we got Shadow when they were 14 weeks old. Not that me not remembering it means it didn't happen; I have a terrible memory! That said, I do remember there were plenty of times when one or the other would still whine to go out, for quite a few months. Not every night, but common enough for me to remember it.
Our first slept through the night from the day we got her at 7 weeks old. Oban was up twice a night, and had to poop or pee, then once and was not able to go the night till 4.5 months. Of course Oban would be the winter puppy in a very cold and snowy winter with many overnight lows of -30C.
Whew. This is reassuring. From reading other things it sounded like she should be sleeping through by now, so I'm glad it's fairly normal. We will just keep doing what are doing and hoping she can't make it through the night soon
Not really a reply but a plea for help!! Ruby will be 16 weeks on Saturday and still not sleeping through the night. She has her last meal between 20.30 and 21.30, and pees and sometimes poops before bed. She willingly goes into her crate around 22.00-23.00 but always wakes at 03.30 (ish) Hubbie then gets up and toilets her but she won't settle back again............sometimes she will sleep for an hour or sometimes less. Has anyone got any ideas? We have no problem with the waking at 03.30, if she went back to sleep until at least 06.00.
Hey, You could maybe try setting an alarm for 3:00am half an hour before she usually wakes and disturbing her sleep to let her outside for a pee. She will be sleepy and you may find it easier to make her settle again and go back to sleep, rather than her waking up. Then you set the alarm 15 minutes later each night and hopefully it works
Scully wouldn't settle after a night time wake-up unless someone was in the room with her. One of us would lie next to the crate and pretend to go to sleep. There have been quite a few mornings where OH would just sleep the last few hours on the sofa bed which is in the same room. We've just discovered that a walk round the block at 9pm helps her sleep through the night. I think before she was just getting half her sleep in the evening. Although we feed her at 6:30 with a few bits of kibble on the walk, so much earlier than yours.
I was just about to post a plea for help myself! Corona is also almost 13 weeks old and is not sleeping thru the night either. It's killing me! Last weekend, she slept until 5:30-6 for 3 nights in a row but now she is waking up earlier than ever for a pee and won't settle back down in her crate. She was willingly going in her crate at bedtime and slept great until around 4:30 and then pushing it later and later, but last night it was 3:45. Then cry until 4:15 then sleep until 6, then we said forget it, and plopped her in our bed until the alarm went off at 6:45. I slept in a different room to try and get some sleep and hubby took over for the first time since we've had her. He was supposed to remain strong and not let her on the bed but he caved at 6. I know the feeling of being so sleep deprived. I'm about ready to give up and let her be a bed dog. We would move her crate to the first floor but we have 2 older teens that work odd shifts and she would definitely wake up. We are really at the end of our rope. I'm home all day with her and it makes it difficult to remain patient throughout the day. Is it too late to re-train her to stay in her crate ALL night? Is it possible? I realize we have created this (as I have posted in an earlier thread) but time just seems to have escaped us and here we are, with this terrible habit. Don't mean to encroach on your thread, but any advice is welcome!
Stanley didn't sleep through until he was about 17 weeks. I was so tired! He used to wake up in the night about 3/4 for the toilet and want to play. I used to just sit silently behind the baby gate in the next room bleary eyed until he eventually thought you're boring and went back to bed until about 6 / 6.30. He never came upstairs, he never got on the bed and he never got any form of fuss or attention. It was literally toilet and nothing until he decided to go back to bed (usually about 5-10 minutes). If I'd put him back in his crate he would bark, so it was better to let him decide to go back himself. I'm not sure whether it was growing up a bit or him thinking "she's got shit craic at that time anyway" one day he just stopped and he's never done it since. Now he sleeps until I get up - usually 7/7.30 on week days and 8.30 on a weekend without a peep.
Thanks for all the ideas. Ruby has always been in her crate at night, downstairs, and I am adamant that she will not sleep with us until she stops waking at night and stops the odd pee indoors (during the day). I am sure she is just lonely because if hubby takes her in the lounge with him, they both sleep!! I have also heard about covering the crate totally with blankets and also a ticking clock to imitate the heartbeat. I'll try these and let you know when we get our first full night of sleep!!
