    Hi Friends

    I hope you'r all well
Does anyone have any suggestion's of how to help stimulate Ziva she is a very bad thief  because she is bored .
Now this morning we went and met up with some friends and their furbabies had lovely walk ,run charge about as dogs do roughly 30/40 min which Is Ziva's daily allowance now she just turned 6 months I put her in her crate on return for 90 min then she woke ,let her out for a p hubbie looked out for her while I made lunch then the fun starts .......

She jumps up on kitchen counter to see what she can steal , after winning that game I get it off her which is a battle now as she will not come back with it something I now from day 1 I would never do is turn it into a chase game but unfortunately before you realise what's happened bang chase game has commenced . she then starts looking for things to steal or be mischievous ,get up to no good its a battle between us daily and so fed up with it

She has her interavtive cube you put food in but she gets bored after 10 min want's to move onto next thing had marrow bone for night time so Iain and I can get some peace to watch TV can do her basic training sit, down, stand, stay but again she gets bored have got bricks round garden for her to do some search games by hiding cheese, sausage's behind the brick and she has to find her reward but again can only do 4 repitition's and she looses Interest

    Sorry for moan :)

    Marie & Ziva

I'd try clicker training something a bit more complex than she is used to doing. Object recognition is one I used when my dog was on rest. It is quite tiring for them to learn, and a fair few steps - so it is something that you can use multiple times a day, and it'll still take a couple of weeks to complete.

I left a basket with the items, my clicker and so on by his training mat, and when I needed a "tire out Charlie" activity, it was ready to go.

Obviously, there are loads of different things you can do, but I found this one useful. It also helped my skills, in that you not only have to put something on cue really well, but the dog needs to distinguish the different cues (names) which my dog finds challenging, so it made his brain work.

There is a thread on this here:

Toast? Oh, I think you mean the coaster! Haha. :D:D:D Yes, I sort of improvise with my clicker training my props. I just use whatever I have to hand.

I use different treats - the harder the thing I'm asking him to do, the better the treats. It also depends on the exercise. If I'm asking him to pick things up, or I want to throw the treat, I'll use large dry treats. Otherwise, I use tiny soft treats - bits of meat, normally.

Charlie is very used to doing clicker training, and loves it. Inside the house, he'll work for very low value treats - just kibble or even 1/4 of a kibble, barely anything. But if you are just starting out, I'd use something a bit tastier.

So something like cheese or hotdog sausage. The treats should be small, I get about 50 training treats out of one standard size hotdog (this is also pretty much cheaper than any commercial treat you can buy).

Don't forget to reduce meals to account for the extra treats.

That's great Have got my coaster at ready but will get her started just with us sitting and her getting treat when I click so she no's click means reward.

Iain a butcher so sausages and cheese are no problem and yes will remember to reduce her kibble a little.

Will be interesting to see If I can get her to understand how to paw coaster mmmmmmmm

    Hi Julie T

Ziva can do it :) :) got her to lie on her mat and I put treat in hand well between thumb and fore finger and she eventually just touched my hand with her paw so I click and reward after few goes she actually put her paw on my hand I click and reward played a game outside with her before getting Iain at 5 then got her to show Iain how clever she is and she remembered what I was asking of her.
Will try again tonight then move forward to her crossing her paw over :) :) what a clever Ziva xx

    Thank you

That's great. :) Try with a target though, because you can use it for other things, and do more complicated things with it - it's more normal to get the dog to target your hand with its nose rather than paw.

For example, you can put the target on your shoe and cross your legs, and she will cross her paws following the target. :)

Yay! That's great. If you enjoy it, there are some really good books....

I really would move onto the coaster as a target first. Rewarding her for pawing your hand could have annoying side effects...like she'll paw your hand whenever she wants you to get up and entertain her...:D:D:D

As soon as she puts her nose on the coaster to nick it, click. If that doesn't stop her, in that she doesn't immediately look round for her treat, then you need to go back and recharge your clicker with super tasty treats. And make sure she knows she is working for super tasty treats when you go back to teaching the coaster.

If she still doesn't get it, start with an easier exercise so she gets used to clicker training. Try a hand touch - her nose on your palm. Rub a bit of cheese on your palm if she has trouble with that at first.

Oh, definitely reward. The idea is she'll put her nose to it, you click and treat and she'll get used to the fact that putting her nose on the coaster is a good thing. The click, if it's been charged properly, should stop her nicking the coaster because she'll look to you for the treat.
