After having the work day from hell and feeling tired I took my 2 youngest labs for a walk. It was lovely the sun shone we met loads of my friends and theirs too we had a good walk and play. The dogs behaved really well (well Rory did Midge broke parole a bit). Walked home they were great walking we were all really happy. Saw grumpy dog and his man so crossed the road to avoid upsetting him.all lovely. both dogs sitting to wait to cross the road still lovely and all fine then a man going passed jumped at Rory and Rubbed his back shouting hello mate? Luckily both my dogs are calm and good dogs but it really frightened us all, because he came from behind. I told him not to do that he had frigthened us all he replied that he was scared of dogs and it was my problem and i had a problem? did I wander into another universe? some people are really weird
Thank goodness the dogs were so good and didn't react , silly man . Sam would have been fine but Millie wouldn't , she would have been spooked for sure . People sometimes just don't think do they ?
The weirdness and stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me. He was lucky that Rory is such a good boy, some dogs would have reacted very badly and he would have tried to blame them
Very strange man. There are some odd people in the world. I had a strange man follow me on a walk the other day. I doubled back on myself on a lower path and I then saw him hiding behind a farmer's barn, just poking his head around watching us. Most peculiar.
That's a bit concerning. Perhaps some mental challenges there? I've had children do things like that, not adults. I haven't seen him for a while but I've warned other dog walkers about a man, retirement age I'd guess, who rides his bike on a local trail where dogs are allowed off leash. The first time I saw him coming I called Oban to me, he came and sat by me. Instead of going by the man pulled up just short of us and started screaming, "Oh no, don't let him get me." I was dumbfounded as my dog was sitting politely by my side and well off to the side with lots of room for the man to pass. Other dog walkers have reported similar encounters. The man seems unbalanced but nothing has happened to him or us so we don't feel we can report him for anything. He's weird and scary.
I just wonder if some of them are trying to get cash off us. we had a spate locally of the same man kicking out dogs then saying that going to cost you a lot of money if the dogs react.
Oh that's horrible.! Why on earth someone would do that is beyond me. I'm quite an anti social dog walker so I tend to avoid places that have people around, this is partly personal preference but also due to Penny with other dogs - we have a more successful walk if we go somewhere quieter. She wouldn't have reacted so well with someone jumping out at her to fuss her, especially if he came up from behind - she gets all suspicious if someone is walking behind us at the best of times! Sometimes I have to stop and wait for them to overtake us, especially if it's someone with a hat or umbrella.
Sorry you got a fright ,was it dark too? I get the willies a bit when its dark.I live on the main road up to the golf clubhouse and when we do our bedtime toilet walk I encounter a few wobbly folk (especially at the weekend ) I always remember a young man in his 20's weaving down the road when Dexter had probably been with us about a month ....so 6 months old........I opted for avoidance and headed into the park,he came after us and starting leaping around and patting his thighs in play to encourage Dexter to jump up...all the while saying'Love dogs,I've had Boxers all my life.....' made me very scared and yeah, mate be careful what you wish for....I think Dexter's back legs actually made flyball contact with his shoulders at one point
Its not the dark that worries me i can see better in the dark than in sunlight, but i have had very drunk people trying to fuss my dogs. I have also been surrounded by large men about 8 of them they were drinking and were asking me things like do you F**k your dog. Lovely people I escaped and just at that point a police car came round the corner I was able to flag him down and they had all their drink taken off them by the police. I am very anti social is it any wonder why.
Very scary for you. I was taking the Good Citizen Silver with my Lab and we had to do it in a small town, I was doing the walk on lead when a drunk came up and started in a very drunken way to talk and fuss my dog! I also once took him on a train and attracted a drunk there as well,, we spent the whole journey of half an hour having a drunken converstion, though of course me and my dog were sober
@sdegg you certainly do come across some strange people. A couple of months ago we were waiting to go into dog training at the local village hall when a women charges through the door making us both jump out of our skin. Mabel's reaction was to wag her tail and go and say hello. No jumping up or anything silly. Women screams dangerous dog OMG dangerous dog. I'm speechless, I tell the trainer who thinks I'm being silly as the only thing Mabel is likely to do is lick you to death
