In the last few days Holly has developed a new habit. She'll be walking along, then she will suddenly stop and stick her nose in the air as if she's sniffing something. She does it everywhere: indoors, in the garden, out on walks. Sometimes if she's outdoors she will pull away afterwards as if she wants to get away from something. Its not fear, but its a very determined pull. I've never seen anything like this before. Any ideas?
Re: Strange New Behaviour <shrug> could be anything I suppose. They do have more sensitive sniffers than we do, and if she is repelled by it...there is probably good reason. Gas leak, predator come to mind...I would maybe try and see if I could detect any kind of pattern....
Re: Strange New Behaviour Interesting. I would take it at face value and say that she can smell something new in your area. Their noses are so good, there may be only traces of the scent. Any new industrial/roadwork/farming activities in your area?

[/quote] We've not noticed anything unusual, and it's happening over a wide area. There's no obvious pattern to it. It's very strange.
Re: Strange New Behaviour We often walk past an electrical installation in our road (don't know what it actually is ) and Riley has never turned a hair. Then one day he refused to walk past it and walked round the far side of the bus shelter. I could not work out what it was, it went on for a couple of weeks and then it was like nothing had ever happened and he just started walking past it again.............very odd
Re: Strange New Behaviour Charlie reacts really strangely to certain parts of the Common. There are two places in particular that makes him act like something is stinging his nose! I have never been able to spot anything out of the ordinary though.
Re: Strange New Behaviour My mum was out with her yorkie last year some time and all of a sudden she smelt something and shot off like a rocket. She ran all the way out of the field and halfway home before she got scared on the road and stopped and my mum was able to catch up to her. To this day we don't know what it was but for weeks after she refused to go in that part of the field.
