hi, We have got stray dog problem and its increasing, My dog is 2 years old female lab, She recently got vaccinated on 10 may, Today morning i was doing walk with dog and we saw some dogs and she ran to them, she was just barking, one dog bite her, i can see small scratch, At her side near hip, what should i do, Its 9am vet hospital has not opened yet, Is my dog having rabies? Do we need to give rabies shot again? I heard that there are many side effects? How many times vaccination going to protect?
How bad is the bite? Is it still bleeding? Clean the wound with soap and water and try to stop the bleeding by applying pressure to it. If its bleeding profusely, then go to the emergency vet. If its just a "scratch" or its superficial, you can wait until the morning.
Ah I'm sorry to read this ,you must have had a big fright . Definately disinfect the wound.....the vet will be able to advise you about the rabies protection.I know from travelling and importing /exporting my dog that they can't get permission to fly until 40 days after the rabies vaccine which implies that protection isn't immediate..... I'd go in for a check over too, without scaring you more ,sometimes bites can look superficial but actually be quite deep ....especially puncture wounds x Hope everything is ok x
Wound is not big, it was like scratch just line of blood, i had emergency wound kit for dogs, sprayed it on it, And took to the vet, He gave rabigen mono shot, What are the side effects of that injection, is my dog in danger if he take that shot after 30 days of vaccinate?
Hi there - you probably need to ask your vet about this. Some of the non-UK members might know about this, but the bulk of us, being UK based, thankfully don'y have to worry about Rabies. Your vet should be able to answer this for you. jac
