I honestly never realised how much hair came out of a dog... it's bloody everywhere. I washed some of Bob's blankets yesterday and then did one of our washes today. Every friggin thing in there is covered in black hair. It's everywhere I look... All my little boys school clothes are covered. I'm trying to stay on top of it but it's constant... It's really stressing me out. I don't like the hair, it makes me feel dirty having it all over me. When we eat I find hair in my food.... GRRRR What do you do about washing dog things? I mean how do you get it out from the washing machine? I didn't see any in there before I loaded it up earlier... but it must be. I got some of those mesh bags, but they aren't really big enough for the vet beds really. Maybe I could put the blankets in them next time. But I can't use them with vet bed. We don't have any launderettes near here so that's not really an option either. Sorry just needed a rant! Any advice or tips regarding this would be VERY welcome! Lou x
Re: Stressing over the hair I feel your pain, but having had Labs for donkeys years, I`ve gotten used to the hairy situation and largely ignore it I have throws on my sofa and chairs , I wash them every other day and put them in an old duvet cover so that the hairs don't accumulate in the washing machine . Both Sam and Millie have removable covers in their beds, I also wash these twice a week and again put them into the duvet cover . I`m not obsessive about housework but because of black hair on a pale green carpet , I do hoover every other day and sweep my kitchen floor regularly ( ish ) `fraid that this a all part of life with a Lab
Re: Stressing over the hair I'm like Kate, I wash all my dog stuff in an old duvet cover. The vet bed fits in fine, and the duvet cover stops residual hair being left in the washer, stops damage from collars, harnesses etc too. I'm afraid apart from the duvet cover trick, I've just progressively dropped my standards over the years....I bought my sister a mat for the entrance to her flat for Christmas this year. It said "Warning. This house is completely covered in dog hair". Lets any potential visitors know what to expect.....
Re: Stressing over the hair Another happy slob here I have always felt that so long as the kitchen and loos are hygienic the rest is up to personal choice. There' said lot I would rather do than housework
Re: Stressing over the hair I wash my dog fleeces once a week and before I take them out I get a tissue and collect the dog hairs that are visible in the front of the machine, then wipe round the rubber ring inside. I am finding that now that no 2 Lab is 3 years old, I am going through an extended period of no hairs!!! No 1 Lab barely moulted anyway, but no 2 Lab was hell. So all is bliss in my house for the moment.....
Re: Stressing over the hair In the days when I had three dogs, a big black lab and two mainly black, springer crosses , three cats and five children at home sitting on or under each other, there seemed to be a lot of "tumble hair", mud and general mess and untidiness pretty much everywhere. . Loos and work surfaces were always hygienic but trying to keep the rest of the place looking like a show home would have been bad for everyone...especially me!The children knew visitors were iminent if the housework levels ever got serious ;D. I did have animal and child free zones which helped a bit and they had to get into play clothes when they got in from school. I used throws which along with the dog bedding got a lot of shaking outdoors which got the worst off. Children all grew up very healthy and now have their own "tumble hair" issues in their own homes... a general lowering of standards becomes part of the territory....have fun and don't worry!
Re: Stressing over the hair I wash their stuff in a big laundry bag, it keeps the hairs away from our washing. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DNGR862?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage I would rather like a separate washing machine for dog stuff ... we even have a space now that we've got rid of the dryer ... but I won't hold my breath! I vac the house at least once a day, but this is now totally routine, I don't even think about it. (We had Cavaliers before Labs so had to groom them a LOT. They had to be bathed a lot too, as hosing down didn't work or long hair. I find the Labs easier hair wise - as they moult, but only twice a year) Oh, and I got a fabulous lint roller from Aldi, you wash the hairs off instead of peeling a paper. It's brill for clothes. I have one in the car for work days. It's this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hangerworld-Washable-Lint-Roller-Cover/dp/B00928U3YY/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1422893147&sr=1-2&keywords=lint+roller+washable
Re: Stressing over the hair I'm with Kate. Hair is an inevitable consequence of owning a Lab. Grooming, hoovering, and finding ways to de-hair your clothes before going to work are just part of the deal. Short of shaving your Lab there's not much you can do about it. I'm only joking about shaving! Although maybe its not such a bad idea.....
Re: Stressing over the hair When I was a child my parents had a black lab. They settled on hoovering the dog (she didn't mind at all in fact thought it a great game) as it was much easier than hoovering the house!
Re: Stressing over the hair For some odd reason, Charlie only moults on the the white kitchen floor. The rest of the house, dark carpets and brown furniture stay spotless... ;D
Re: Stressing over the hair I LOVE the duvet cover idea - I feel happier already! I think it was the pulling out a hairy load of washing that tipped me over the edge this morning LOL! I'll have a wipe round the washing machine and then run a rinse to try and clear it out. Then it's duvet covers from now on for any of Bob's stuff. The rest I can deal with .. but not the hairy damp clothes LOL! Thank you! Lou x
Re: Stressing over the hair I used to be very house proud......... Until I got Harley I now hoover every few days (wooden floors downstairs). We have a throw/blanket on the sofa which gets washed weekly. I've just got used to the hair and mud - my living room backs onto the garden which is currently very muddy!!
Re: Stressing over the hair Don't hoover the dog. DO hover the washing machine once its dry though. Sad

Sad [/quote] Me too and the tumble dryer ;D ;D Life is too short to be worried about Labrador hairs, although easy for me to say Hattie doesn't shed and Charlie only does a little bit, mixed breeds you know x

I can only let them out one at once usually or my house is a swamp too. We are all enjoying these frozen days as they can play outside mud-free!
