Arrgh....just dawned on me today that Christmas is coming up quite SOON actually....and I need to get Simba booked into a kennel....there are two close by here, one is booked and I left a message with the other, but I highly doubt they will have a spot. We go to the city for Christmas, where both sides of the family live, so I suppose I could look for a spot around there but I am not holding put much hope that there will be anything open at places that I would want to put the pooch. The one place I talked to said all the places he would recommend are booked. Now what? Don't know why I haven't got on this yet...seriously STUPID Maybe I can arrange for someone to come house sit, or something....just not sure who. :-\ If we can't get something sorted I guess I'll just have to stay here....we were planning on going the 23-28th...I could leave him here a couple days with having someone come by and give him walks and food/water, etc, but not 5 days. My own fault. Should have been more on the ball....
Re: Stupid me!!! Oh no!! I really hope you find something. Anyone need some loving company over the hols round your way?
Re: Stupid me!!! Oh no. I hope you manage to find something. Have you tried dog walkers? They often do overnight etc
Re: Stupid me!!! Oh no! I know a dog/house sitter but she charges £40 a day (!) No chance of taking Simba with you?
Re: Stupid me!!! Are you driving? If you could lay your hands on a soft travel kennel then maybe you could take Simba....even if he lives in the car mostly and in a kennel wherever you sleep overnight. My car is just a home from home for Charlie - when we are away on training courses, he just lives in his car crate during the day (obviously coming out for his turn to do the training) and in a crate in a holiday cottage the rest of the time. So long as he gets enough exercise and company, he's just fine.
Re: Stupid me!!! That's my usual trick. Hope you get something sorted. We are taking Rolo with us to father in laws. We arrive the day after new carpets are fitted! Seriously? What a headache. He is house trained at home but notoriously has an accident in a new environment. Going outside every 5 minutes me thinks. Where abouts do you live? Maybe someone on here could help?
Re: Stupid me!!! Well, still working on this. Yes, we are driving....the problem with the pooch staying in the van is the temperature, it just gets too cold at night and probably during the day, if he's not moving around a lot. But it will be (optimistically) -10C at night and very easily much colder during the night. Can't take him with us...my side of the family are NOT dog people, just wouldn't work. OH's family do like dogs....but one brother has a dog, an older Border Collie, getting kinda grumpy, and their house is definitely NOT Simba-friendly...hate to say it but it can be kind of a mess and I shudder to think what might happen as Simba goes into his prowl mode and snatches one thing after another off tables, etc . Other brother has a cat and his daughter has a husky which is there a lot and who did not take very kindly to Simba when they met at Thanksgiving. I am still looking for kennels around the city but in talking to one of the trustworthy ones he was full, of course, and he said that all of the ones that he would be comfortable to recommend were full as well. OH doesn't want to impose on people to have to come over here and let pooch in and out and feed and walk the pooch on Christmas, which I get, I don't really want to do that too. So...perhaps we might just drive into the city on Christmas Eve, do the celebration with hubby's side of family, drive back here, and then head back into the city on Christmas Day to do it all again with my side, then come home that night. It's a lot of driving (hour and a half one way) but that might be the best solution. We don't have dog sitters/walkers here...at least none that I know of. Pretty sure if there was such a thing and they were working Christmas they would be booked already too... I dunno....still a work in progress. Stupid, stupid..... :-\
Re: Stupid me!!! The other kennel phoned back...they have space!! Phew...Christmas back on track.....yippee!!!! ;D
Re: Stupid me!!! There, an excellent example of just in time efficient planning. So glad you are sorted.
Re: Stupid me!!! Heh heh...too right, Julie. However I may or may not book a spot for next year as I pick him up on the 28th... :
Re: Stupid me!!! Gosh Lisa, just catching up with this one. So glad you have it sorted - much relief in your house I guess
Re: Stupid me!!! I'm very late catching up with this but it was actually quite good. As I kept reading I kept thinking oh no what is she going to do. Then all of a sudden sorted. Brilliant. ;D

As I kept reading I kept thinking oh no what is she going to do. Then all of a sudden sorted. Brilliant. ;D [/quote] That's the great thing about coming along like that Jen you get the bad news and the good news all in one go! So glad you are sorted Lisa,I bet you've been worrying and beating yourself up about it,now you can just relax and look forward to seeing everybody and enjoying some family time x
Re: Stupid me!!! Yes, we will enjoy ourselves and I think Simba will too. The kennel is a good one, the owner does a good job with the dogs and they get plenty of TLC. He has been there once before, so it won't be completely new to him. He will get play time with other dogs and walks. Hopefully he will have a good time!
