Thanks for the replies, sorry I posted and then disappeared, childcare day for me on a Monday!
Thanks Pippa,I've already pulled those articles over into my reading list,I don't think I was clear ,I meant something on how to send him back over his left shoulder or right shoulder...on the evidence I'm seeing though he seems to just do it!
I've put the mats away for now...Dexter can sit on a mat,he's starting to look a bit glum about sitting on a mat to be honest .....so we are just going to practice with dummies.
The bowls excercise would have worked amazingly well with greedy boy Dexter too, Heidrun, but I'll keep it simple for now ( for me more than him!)
Thankyou all I'll put a report in soon and hopefully a vid of our progress!x

I first did backs with Riley in a corridor and I sat him really close to the wall so he could only turn the way I wanted. I also used memories as I wanted to try and make sure we were doing absolutely straight lines and my throwing isn't that good. If you throw you're also doing two things.....steadiness and direction. I try to do one thing at a time :)
Using food bowls with Obi too and that'sworking well although it's hard to get him to sit looking at me if there's food behind him !!

Yes I'm finding I'm losing my left and right back now that I'm getting distance, using memories or a wall in the house would help ,I can't throw straight ! I can give a good far throw over his head and he stays put but he turns to see where it lands and he goes 'back' over the shoulder he turned when he marked the dummy landing.
We are making progress with 2 dummies too,he's reliable going to the one I send him to .......in the house. It's too hot to take the show on the road at the moment and on walks I've got 2 dogs for this week, but I'm going to the dog park with him tomorrow so I'll take some dummies along with me and if it's quiet do some practice there.we aren't going to win any prizes but it's great to do something with him x
    Thanks Barbara x

One trainer also suggested sitting the dog up a little bit squint so the correct way was slightly shorter than the wrong way. That was also against a boundary.

    Good luck :D
