Hello all! Picking up our Labrador puppy on Saturday! Dark chocolate he is and our toddler has named him "Ted" ! Currently making sure we have everything we need in place before we get him! Pippa Mattisons' books sound a good read and a good source of information?
Re: Ted Hi Matt and welcome! It's so exciting picking up a new puppy! Ours has been with us for two weeks now and has already brought so much love, laughter and havoc to our lives. Ted is a great name. Definitely get The Happy Puppy Handbook as soon as possible. It's full of information for new puppy owners. I've read it twice and still pick it up to refresh myself with bits and pieces. I also have Total Recall, which is also really good, but a bit advanced for us right now. I'll give it another read once we're really into our walks; we've not had the second jabs yet, so there's still no paws on the ground outside of home. Enjoy the forum and ask any questions you have. Everyone's really nice here and have put up with me boring them about the minutiae of everyday life with a puppy ... at least so far
Re: Ted A warm welcome from me Helen, Hattie 7 years and our rescue boy Charlie 3 years. How exciting getting a new puppy and love the name Ted. Yes Pippa's books The Happy Puppy Handbook and Total Recall are both invaluable and help enormously with training your puppy/dog. Total Recall saved Charlie's life and us from going completely insane Good luck with Ted and keep us posted on his progress. xx
Re: Ted Hi and welcome from me and Harley (14 month old red fox) I too highly recommend the Happy Puppy book - wish it was out when I got mine, but still has helped us a lot. Such an exciting time.......I bet you won't sleep much Friday night Enjoy the puppy as they do grow quickly Feel free to ask any questions.......we don't bite (well, not usually ) Photos are always welcomed of all pups
Re: Ted Hi Matt,Ted sounds a very fine name.....can't wait to hear all about him not long now. Welcome from me and my 2 year old yellow Dexter x
Re: Ted Hi Matt, LOVE the name Ted, good choice! Loads of info on the forum - you will really benefit from reading The Happy Puppy book as soon as possible, get a good start. Good luck. jac
Re: Ted Hi and welcome Ted is a lovely name. I bet you are all extremely excited! And it is ok to be a bit nervous too
Re: Ted Welcome to the forum from Sara and me. It's a great place. I chuckled when I read you were getting everything in place, but then you said you never had a lab so I appologize. . I thought I was ready, but I've spent the last month trying to keep up with Sara, repairing, re-enforcing,rebuiding etc and that's just her inside and outside enclosures. You'll have a blast. Pippa also has an e-book. "how to win at dog training" You'll like it too.
Re: Ted Welcome here from me and my 2 yr old choc LabX. I'm sure your family is on pins and needles waiting for the pup to arrive! Total Recall is a fabulous book, and don't forget to check out all the articles on the main site as well as the Totally Dog Training site. Great resources. I haven't read the puppy book we got our boy as a one year old rescue but I know that it is good!
Re: Ted Ah congratulations, how did the journey home go?you need to join a photo hosting site like Flickr or Dropbox and then go to the technical section and there is help there .....if you struggle shout out . Hope Ted settles in ok and your first night together goes well Best wishes Angela x
