I was away for a few days earlier this week and DH sent me these photo's of Harley's teeth. She is incredibly good about allowing anyone to fiddle in her mouth so we have been watching the soap opera of teething with interest. We are slightly concerned about these two teeth and I want to ask if it warrants a vet visit? Or should we be patient? She doesn't show any discomfort on this side of her mouth and eats and chews happily.
No advice, sorry. Call your vet? But just want to say how very impressed that she lets you do that. Snowie instinctively clamps his mouth shut!
Harley is so cool about us touching her mouth, she even lets us feel her molars. Whenever, which is often, she has something in there that we can't identify she just lets us reach in and take it or scoop it out with a finger. I think it is because we have spent hours and hours just laying on the bed with her touching her paws and mouth and face. But also, she really is a relaxed pup. Yeah, I am thinking we give it another week because she isn't in any pain or discomfort that we can notice, and the area isn't inflamed and then off to the vet she goes...
To me it looks like Harley has her adult tooth growing out replacing her smaller "puppy" tooth and what you can see is just normal , from my own experience with my last two dogs when their adult teeth came through (in particular their canines ) they seemed to come through at what looked like funny angles , however if left alone everything was ok . But if you are overly concerned definitely take Harley to the vets , better to be safe than sorry .
If its just what looks like a 'double fang' its just the adult tooth growing out while the canine is still there. Once tyhe adult tooth is full through the baby tooth should come out. If it doesnt come out they can take it out at the vets but our puppy lost both of hers when playing and there was a cracking sound then she was randomly chewing something - turns out it was the tooth hanging by a thread which then came out
My sister has a pup with the same problem. It is only not a lab but dobermann. She went to the vet and he pulled out the baby teeth.
I have one of Snowie's baby teeth - I think it is the bottom fang. All the others had come out and of course you never see them, most likely swallowed. So when I saw the last one very loose and ready to come out, I took a tissue (for grip) and simply plucked it out. When I see it now, it is so tiny! And yet it did so much damage!!!
DH has 3 of Harley's teeth. I am not sure what he is going to do with them? Show them to visitors? But he is very sentimental and attached to them. These two teeth are still rock steady, so we will see how long they last. The only thing worse than a lab pup with teeth is a lab pup with a double set.
George had this exact thing a few weeks ago, on both sides. I was just about to take him to the vet when they both fell out naturally. I think it's only a concern if the new teeth are completely grown in, and the baby teeth still stick around. If your pup doesn't seem bothered, I might wait until you can see the bottom/wider part of the new tooth (that's about when George's problem fixed itself). Playing tug with his rope a lot sped up the process...
Xena at 10 months still has a tooth behind a bottom front tooth, I'll have to get a photo tonight when I have a helper. I'd totally forgotten about it until this post! It's never worried me (should it?). I think of it as a shark tooth lol.
Brogan had his lower canine do this - the baby tooth stayed to the outside of the adult tooth well after the adult tooth had grown in (like your second picture). It eventually fell out, but left the adult tooth permanently discoloured where it was next to the baby tooth. No big deal, I just always kind of wished I would have asked the vet about it sooner.
I hear you Emily, if the Teef of Terror don't loosing up at least by next week it is going to be a vet visit for Harls. I don't think the teeth bother her at all but they are still her hells awful puppy crocodile teeth and they are sharp. So even when she is gently mouthing or playing those two teeth still catch toys and me.
