Re: The appointment is made..... Sounds good. Try and enjoy a peaceful evening and have a good sleep before you are back on duty. Alice
Re: The appointment is made..... Have rushed home hoping for news so glad it's all gone well. Rest up ready to spoil him tomorrow!!
Re: The appointment is made..... Just got home after a shopping trip with a 16 year old (Joseph) legged it to the computer and hurray I see it's really good news - fantastic. Now get some sleep before you resume nurse duties tomorrow. So glad for you Angela. Lots of hugs from us all. Helen xxxx
Re: The appointment is made..... Great to hear that it went well. That's excellent news. You are going to have your beautiful, happy dog back soon, and after a period of healing, can get back to normal life with him. No tail syringes, no wag mitigation strategies every time someone arrives, no sleepless nights - just normal life with your precious dog and hubby. Hope you are getting a good sleep right now.
Re: The appointment is made..... Thankyou everybody,I know I keep saying it and it's isn't diluted in any way by me repeating it but I really appreciate your kindness, thoughts and well wishes xxx I slept a full 11 hours last night which whilst I feel much more myself I feel :-[ that I wasn't tossing and turning thinking about Dexter as I bet he had a horrible night :'( chris rang again a few hours after I'd come to bed and they said he was comfortable and snoozing on and off and they were going to feed him in a couple of hours....... I can't believe that 12 months ago I wouldn't even consider having a dog and now I would turn my world upside down for him.....guess you all got onto that a long time ago ;D x Right ,I'm off to do a good grocery shop before we collect him and then we are stocked up for his initial recovery. I'm a bit scared of seeing his tail to be honest ......in terms of blood and surgical, things I'm actually really squeamish.....obviously I've had to overcome that in the last week and after I've initially seen the wound I will be fine ..... Lisa I've lost my confidence totally in caring for the wound.after the initial operation the vet wanted to leave it undressed apart from very minimal protection and I persuaded her to dress it more as I was terrified of infection and him banging it......yesterday she said they will do the same ie leave it uncovered to air as much as possible.......which scares me no end but I will accept whatever they say.i also swabbed it with antiseptic every day which I question now....did it not give it an opportunity to dry properly ?even padding the lounge out last night I said the chris.....why didn't we do this last week?I worry terribly that I interfered with natural recovery....but there is no going back now We've just got to do the best we can by him now ....... I'll take him into the surgery everyday for the vet to look after the wound site,my job will just be vigilance that he doesn't get inventive in ways to get to it ........I'm hoping he won't because he never bothered one bit with his castration wound but the last 4 days especially at night his tail wound has bothered him...... I'll let you know how he is later Thankyou all, hope you and your families dogs and humans are ok x
Re: The appointment is made..... Good to hear that he is going well. I'm sure he's in wonderful hands. Really good to hear that you slept well last night Don't feel guilty for having slept well. Now, I'm no stranger to self-flagellation (figuratively, not literally), but you've got it down to a fine art, girl Give yourself a break, eh? You surely deserve it. I think that if it was going to heal it would have healed - regardless of dressing, padding and antiseptic. We had to put a thick antiseptic cream every day on Obi's bite and it did not interfere with healing. I don't think that anyone on this planet could have engineered a different outcome. We are all in awe of the incredible dedication that you show towards your beloved dog and none of us could have done more than you have.
Re: The appointment is made..... Rachael is right, Angela, no-one could have done more for Dex than you did. I hope it goes well for you. I'm glad to hear you have had a good sleep. I think everything is just more difficult when sleep is in short supply!
Re: The appointment is made..... Yup what they said! Look forward to beautiful Dexter coming home and all the fun you're going to have together xxx
Re: The appointment is made..... Angela, nothing more I can add except, YOU ARE A STAR . Dexter will be home and you can start to enjoy him again and this nightmare will soon be a distant memory. Helen xxx
Re: The appointment is made..... Here he is ,the new Dexter : www.flickr.com/photos/97066992@N03/10377579995/ He was full of beans and so excited when he saw us....yes full on leaping up at us ( not told off,of course!)I've even got a belt on my nose from the cone he was so exuberant ;D He's had a little walk,a massive drink,a v small meal ,a not bad effort at killing his panda, and a calmex tablet and now as you can see he is crashed out on my feet...he's gone for his tail a couple of times but he absolutely cannot get to it which makes me happy and sad at the same time as I'm sure you know what I mean :'( he had a full blood work up to due to the bleeding problem he seems to have ??? Anyway it's shown he has low red blood cells which apparently can be related to a certain kind of mite out here that can get into their bones....gracious,I promise there won't be another 11 page thread about dexters blood ;D he's got some medication for that and needs another blood test in a week when the vet said that she's confident he will be back to normal.his frontline was up to date to o ??? But last time I was back in the UK Paulina,my vet ,gave me a prescription to get Advocate because she felt it was better than frontline for some of the nasties that are lurking out here Now we are home, straight away we can see that he isn't going to bash himself on anything in the house ,he's going to be so much happier moving around with gusto and not being treated like an invalid. You will all never know my forum friends how much you have helped me through the last couple of weeks....and especially the last 48 hours. If I could I would send you all a lovely bouquet, bottle of wine and a box of chocs ,but as I can't I am willing them over to you and imagining you enjoying them with your lovely doggies x Now that we are all settled i am going to put a quick call into my Mum and Dad and then catch up on all your news and what's been happening xxxx
Re: The appointment is made..... Bless him! Yes they do get under your skin don't they and before you know it you're bonded for life!
Re: The appointment is made..... Get well soon Dexter and no excessive wagging PLEASE! Helen, Hattie & Charlie xxxx
Re: The appointment is made..... Mate, it is YOU who deserves the wine, chocolates and flowers. I seriously take my hat off to you guys, I do. I hope this doesn't sound too gushy, but you really are a top person, Angela. Respect. So glad to hear that Dexter is feeling good enough to be in a panda-killing mood. Normal life is just around the corner.
Re: The appointment is made..... Glad Dex doing so well, bouncy and happy now you can get back to being bouncy and happy too. Jen
Re: The appointment is made..... You deserve every bit of happiness you and that lovely, lovely boy are going to have together. So very pleased he's doing so well. All a distant memory soon xxx
Re: The appointment is made..... SO pleased it's going well! That's great news. He looks like a very comfy dog there. I think his shorter tail (what I could see of it in the pic) looks like it will be unique and rather smart.
Re: The appointment is made..... Thanks everybody,I'm still gutted and having a weep about his tail but he's had a really neat, tidy job done on it,I was really scared to see it to be honest :-\ x
Re: The appointment is made..... I'd be exactly the same xxx but he won't mind and you'll soon be back to having fun and it won't matter in the slightest
