    AVERTED!!!

So pleased with Lilly this morning.
As the older forum members will know. Lilly loves a good chase. Typical victims in our area are rabbits, hares, pheasants and deer. When I say "victims", don't worry she rarely (maybe twice) has ever actually got so far as to reach the chase subject.

This morning along the farm track out the back of our house, we encountered 3 deer.
They were around 60 yards away and Lilly was about 15ft in front of me as we went over a small hump and they came in to view.
She saw them. Paused. Watched them (they were still).
I yelled "SIT", thrust my arm in the air as a visual reinforcer (not that she looked) and she slowly SAT!!!!

They heard me yell (actually I think I yelled twice as her sit was slow motion) and took off into the adjacent wooded copse and Lilly STAYED SAT!!!
    Wow!
And she continued to sit as I walked up to her, put her on her lead, and emptied my pockets of thankfully higher value treats than normal (Bakers bacon rashers chopped up).

Her recall is not great. If I call her back she looks around to see if there is anything interesting she shouldn't be doing before coming :D

Our "Sit" command, reinforced with the arm movement, is one of our strongest, and IT WORKED!

    So proud of her.
    :):):)

Wowsers, with your description I felt like I wanted to chase the deer:) I can only imagine the obedience it took for Lilly to not go.

WOW, WOW, WOW that's amazing Lilly and Jac, you have every right to be proud of her :star: It also shows that what works for one dog doesn't for another so adjusting training methods for your own dog is the best way to go, that's what we do. A stop whistle would have worked for Hattie but your method worked for Lilly but the end result is the same :)

Charlie says "go Lilly, go Lilly" xxx

IMPRESSIVE, I would be very proud if I was you (and relieved!). We don't have deer around here, though there is the odd Muntjac. One was quite tame and would come out of the wood to graze and if we kept a reasonable distance would just stay. I guess that was her downfall, probably got by a dog as we don't see her anymore.

    Wow! That is fantastic! :D:D

Ella is the same. I actually ask for a 'drop' as she is great at that from a distance and her 'stay' is pretty good. Both are much more consistent than her recall.

Brilliant Lilly! And Jac, obviously :)

It's great when you have enough reinforcement in your "bank account" to make a substantial withdrawal when you really need it!

Its that "Right!....." bit kind of in the middle where the rest of the sentence could be ....
"just wait till I get you home" or
"it will be no sardines for tea if you don't get back here right now!"
    :D:D:D

I think my bank account is in overdraft, need to be making a few deposits sharpish :p
