Have been throwing the dummy for Charlie and telling him to "bring it" which he does with his tennis balls, he is not in the slightest bit interested in it because it doesn't squeak!! He just runs off with it that's if he can be bothered, otherwise he sits by my side waiting for me to take the squeaky tennis ball out of my pocket!! Not sure if there's any lab in there at all!! Any suggestions please? Helen x
Re: The Dummy doesn't Squeak!!!! Oh bless him, is he food led Helen ? If so , could you maybe impregnate the dummy somehow , possibly rub a piece of sausage or chicken over it, this sounds totally daft now that I`ve written it but I cant think of anything else apart from maybe easing up on the tennis balls so that the dummy seems more interesting ? To be honest , if he retrieves well with his squeaky tennis balls and you arent planning on working him at all , it doesnt really matter that much if he doesnt do dummy work
Re: The Dummy doesn't Squeak!!!! I agree with Kate, Helen - if Charlie is happy retrieving with his squeaky balls, then does it matter that he doesnt care about the dummy??? Main thing is, he has SOMETHING he really cares about, so he can work off some energy chasing around after it!
Re: The Dummy doesn't Squeak!!!! Thank you ladies that's what I thought. Not so daft Kate as I did rub the dummy with chicken - no luck!! Will just go with the tennis balls I think, even if he still doesn't always bring them back and runs off at full pelt expecting me to be close behind!! We are working on "drop it" which he can do but is just a daft boy!! Helen x
Re: The Dummy doesn't Squeak!!!! Hi Helen I agree with the others stick with his tennis balls, don't worry about the dummy.
Re: The Dummy doesn't Squeak!!!! I've been trying to remember what I did with Lady re the dummy. She didn't have a problem with going to get it but she was silly with it and in fact killed the first one reducing it to an empty bag and some sawdust in about 1 minute flat. I got her over it by letting her play with it in the garden under supervision so she got accustomed to it. Then started her retrieving in the field just on simple straight line stuff using the hedge as a boundary so she ran out and back in a straight line. You could try letting her play with it as a toy in the garden and see if that works?
Re: The Dummy doesn't Squeak!!!! One tip I heard was to leave the dummy on top of your dogs kibble if you feed dry food to make it smell yummy but I agree if you don't care about working just stick to the squeaky ball
