    Hi everyone,
We are struggling to think of a good name for our new pup which will be coming home in just over 6 weeks, she will be a black girl.
We are not going to make the final decision until we have gone to pick her in 3 weeks time but would like help with a few suggestions to add to our list.
Having owned Labs before I like names that I associate with the breeds characteristics (greedy and very food driven were my main thoughts)!
I like Nelly (as in Nelly the elephant) Hetty (as in Hetty Hoover) and I also like Mavis (as in Mavis Cruet the fat fairy from Willo the Wisp, ah takes me back to my childhood)!
My girls like the name Gem. I like it but I'm not too sure?
My husband will be happy with something he can shout in the park without looking too silly!
Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.
    Thanks

My SIL's dog is called Georgie.
No idea why, but we like to play with names, and hers turns into Georgie Porgy Pudding & Pie.
A bit of a Unisex name. Definitely needs a girly collar though (sorry Dad :D )

Two syllable names are easier to call. How about Gemma?

Labs love swimming, and Britain was fortunate to have a very good swimmer called Gemma Spoforth. It also allows the girls to have their "gem"

I have a soft spot for the name because my first lab's kennel club name was Gemma of Knockbeg :)

I had a Gemma :) My friend is calling her new Flatcoat puppy Ziva, seems an unusual name which is good.

I had a cat called Gemma because on the journey home my daughter who was holding her said "Isn't she precious"

Thinking of gems and precious things, how about "Ebony" or just "Bonny"

My black girl is called Tatze - it means 'paw' in German. My son named her afer a doggy friend who's a guide dog in Heidelberg (my son lives there)

I have never met a dog called Tatze so it's nice and unique over here :)

We also waited 'till we picked her up - our possible names were Pepper, Rosie and Tatze.

Here she is as a pup (She's one year old now)

Ah Mags what a fab picture.
Tatze is a very unusual name as is Ziva.
I like Ebony but its not a hit with the rest of the family!
Might be a case of wait & see what fits. I swear its harder than naming a child!

Your clue as to why it's so hard is ...[quote author=Nicmorris link=topic=5630.msg71391#msg71391 date=1398608218]

When you're naming a child there's only two opinions, but with a dog, everyone has a say! ::)

Good luck with it...my vote is for Gemma... :)

My favourite Labrador name is Splat.

A friend owned a bitch who, as a pup, would lie down in anything approaching water from almost dry puddles to water troughs so Splat she became :)

Hi Nicola, I just have a long list that I keep adding to; I do hours researching on the net! I am reluctant to ask others because I want to name her myself. It's a tricky business ???
When I think of a name I then research to see how popular it is!
Like you, I am just waiting to see her.
(See, we ARE doing things at the same time already ;D)

I personally think Gemma is beautiful, Gem for short! Whatever you choose will be perfect without a doubt

    What about.....
    Brodie?
    Kerry?
    Freya?

We managed to help Rachael with her duckling names, so we might help, you never know!

    Hi Jacqui,
I'm not sure my sister would be pleased with me naming my dog after her as her name is Kerry! :D
I like Freya and don't think I know anyone with a dog with this name, I will add it to my list!
One of the problems we are having with some of the pretty girls names is that either one of my girls have someone in their class or know someone at school with the same names!
I like slightly unusual names but nothing to strange.

Its tricky truing to get a unique name.
Lilly was born on the first of May, so would have been perfect for a Maisie, but our friend's dog was Mayzie, and even though we don't really see them much, it was still a bit too close.

What about the name of the moment?
    Khalisse? ;D ;D

Florence, Flo & Florrie I like a lot and they are all on the list!

Khalisse - I must be behind the times?!? Where is this name from?

My hubby liked Splat that MadMudMob mentioned earlier but I daren't mention it to my girls in case they like it too! ;)

I am off to Budapest tomorrow morning with work so maybe I will stumble across some unusual names when I'm there. Ummm Hungary now that seems an appropriate name for a greedy labrador! Lol
