When did your puppy 'get it'?

Tess really doesn't, she just wants to get whatever I've thrown and leg it, even if I try and do it somewhere she can't really get past me she'll try her best to jump over or around me with her prize! Any tips for puppies who aren't/weren't natural retrievers?

Here's an article on teaching the clicker retrieve that may help: http://totallygundogs.com/clicker-trained-retrieve/

A basic trick to try is running backwards once she has the dummy. She'll probably try to chase you :)

My two have so-so retrieves and the delivery to hand is somewhat shaky, so I'm not exactly qualified to give any advice, but I worked on them picking the dummy up from the floor right in front of me, holding on to it for a very short time (about a second) and then I moved on to them putting it into my hand. At home, we're getting there slowly. Outside, it's less good :)

    Are you standing up?

I would try sitting on the floor, in a corner and patting my chest. Encourage her up on to you and fuss her. Don't try and take the dummy from her just tell her what a good girl she is. Then there may be a moment where she just lifts her head and offers you the dummy, take it gently then.
