The right decision

My dog trainer emailed me on Tuesday asking if I could look after a friends dog for a week or so while they were on holiday as she couldn't have him for them as she already had a few dogs booked to stay with her. Apparently Kaipi, a Coton de Tuleur, was good with dogs so not a problem with Juno and was good with cats. After some discussion we decided that we couldn't help out as we were concerned as to how the cats would react to having Kaipi around taking they were not at all happy when Juno arrived  and took some weeks to get used to her presence. We agreed to discuss on Wednesday though on our "balade educatve".

When we arrived for our walk our trainer actually had Kaipi with her to join us for the walk so that we could meet him and see him with Juno. We explained our decision which she is fine with, but having seen him with Juno we knew we had made the right decision. Although Juno was not all interested in Kaipi, apart from saying hello, well her boyfriend Ziggi was there :D:D:D Kaipi would not leave Juno alone. Talk about love at first sight . He spent the entire walk chasing after her and trying to "mount" her at every opportunity, and Juno being the innocent that she is just ignored him, in fact she didn't tell him off or growl or anything - she just ignored him . It was a bit sad when she got back in the car at the end of the walk, Juno curled up on her mattress as normal and had a drink of water with Kaipi standing beside the car whining because he couldn't get to her. Juno didn't even bother to look at him :D:D, she only has eyes for a border collie cross ;)

Poor old Kaipi! Has Juno had much experience of dogs mounting her? Willow put up with it for a bit with her father when we went to visit, but after a while she told him off in no uncertain terms. She now has no tolerance to it with other dogs, other than her brother, who she pretty much ignores when he does it.

The only other instance, again on one of our walks, was with a poodle, Harry. Harry also tried it with Digo (Indigo) a mastiff pup who was around a year old at the time. Needless to stay that caused a lot of problems on the walk as he was also an entire boy and about 5 times Harry's size. Juno didn't seem to understand what Harry was trying to do - I think my girl is a real innocent , she just wanted to be up chasing with Ziggi. Have to say some of these boys do have ambition out of proportion to their size :D. Juno just seems to ignore them and carry, I suppose it helps that they have, so far, been smaller than her. Just wish sometimes that she would tell a dog off :(

Phew, close call there ;) I also think its a massive responsibility , looking after someone elses dog, especially when you don't really know them , Sods law and all that

If it hadn't been for the cats we probably would have said yes, until Kaipi showed a very keen interest, and that's putting it mildly, in Juno :rolleyes:

That would've been a nightmare to manage over a weekend... Definitely the right decision!

Disaster averted, I'd say. Or at the very least, you now have a relaxing weekend to look forward to, not a stressful one!
