Why not, it would be interesting It probably won't be able to tell you 'her Dad was an X'. It'll just indicate the breeds that seem to be in her ancestry, without being specific about generations. Sometimes it seems like you end up with a bit of a mixed result that doesn't 100% make sense when you look at the dog (but that's genes for you). As long as you're prepared for that, then give it a go.
@punky1991 There lies my problem with DNA's for dogs, I have a few breeds that I would be devastated to find out were in my rescue dog Charlie's ancestry and I would be frightened it would change how I feel about him which is why I have never done it. If you are OK with any breed lurking in Roxie then there's no harm
I remember seeing a programme on telly about this, and one of the dogs they tested looked a lot like Belle..I was surprised that the DNA results included Bloodhound! Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on a DNA test for her, BUT I would dearly love to know about her ancestry...if it were free.... @charlie - out of interest, why would you be devastated to find certain breeds in Charlie, and which breeds would bother you?
I better not say Sue incase I upset someone who might have or have had the breeds I don't like. I will say Border Collie as I have mentioned before my dislike of them. Sorry to any BC owners
I have often been tempted to get a DNA test for Millie , I would love to know what lurks beneath , but I have read that the tests are not so accurate or reliable , so have decided not to bother and just accept that she is a mongrel called Millie and loved
I don't care what she's mixed with she acts 100 percent lab but so many people ask what she is and then give there guesses and I know you guys this she's mixed with Newfoundland it would just be cool to have an idea
I would get one, would be fascinating I bet even our so called pure bred Labs have something else in them, I cannot see that we could have kept them pure all these years! For example, some ex neighbours had a Labrador bitch and a male spaniel, they mated the Lab bitch with a Lab dog, only to find that when the pups were born, that the spaniel had got there first! They all looked like Labs but some behaved just like spaniels!!
