She was up whining to go outside a good chunk of the night, and this morning on our walk, she stopped to pee about every 45 seconds. Poor thing. We made an appt for her in a couple hours. How long does it usually take for UTIs to clear up once they start the medication?
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. Monty's cleared in about two days (or less even) but we had to keep the antibiotics going for the full 10 days. Just a minor hiccup and it'll be all back to normal in no time
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. The response to antibiotics is usually very quick. When my cat had a similar problem the vet gave him a jab first and then the pills followed. Hope Rue is better soon.
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. Usually the antibiotics help within 24 hours....my vet usually gives an anti-inflammatory/pain killer at the same time. Hopefully she'll be on the mend very soon! Bella sends sympathetic licks...she knows they are miserable! :-[
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. Poor love , the antibiotics will have her right as rain pretty quickly, get well soon little one
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. Yeah, they think it is either a UTI or there's a small chance it could be kidney stones. If the antibiotics don't clear it up, they'll check for stones in a couple weeks. She will get extra treats and cuddles tonight for having to spend the afternoon at the vet!
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. did they do a urine sample and check for pH, blood, puss, and most importantly...crystals? Also watch her carefully - see if she is extra interested in her vulva area and if you see any sort of discharge...when my Bella had the struvite issue, we often would see the crystals clinging to the hairs before she cleaned herself...and she cleaned herself A LOT.... The crystals are often a precursor to bladder and kidney stones.... My thoughts are with you both!!!!! Hugs!!!
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. Hope you had a better night last night and she's improving and more comfortable after a few doses of ABs x
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. UTIs are so common in young that they are almost par for the course. My Vet said it is because they have immature immune systems Molly had one at about 14 weeks. Thanks to the advice from the Forum, I whipped her down the Vet's. She was prescribed ABs and was back to normal in no time. She also had a little spotty rash on her undercarriage as well, but it didn't seem to worry her.
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. Thanks, all. She slept through the night last night just fine...a huge improvement from the night before! She's still asking to go out quite a bit, but otherwise, her energy levels are great and she's playing like normal.
Re: Thinking Rue has a UTI. Good that Rue is feeling better and that you both slept better last night. Hopefully she will be fully recovered in a day or two.
