I don't know about anyone else, but I am fed up spending huge amounts of money on Frontline only for it not to work properly. I have had to treat Hattie & Charlie again having only done it a month ago.

Has anyone heard of Flevox Tick/Flea and Dolpac Wormer which seems to cover every type of worm and both last for 6 months. They are also considerably cheaper than Frontline and Drontal?

I know this has been discussed before and some of you don't use anything but your advise would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Helen xxx

I dont like putting chemicals on the dogs , but it sometimes is a necessary evil . But , I found a product on this website www.csjk9.com a couple of years ago, called Billy no Mates , it works :)

Kate, do you find this works well for ticks?
Fleas don't seem to be a problem for us, but ticks are, in spite of using frontline.

Hi, I've heard before that Frontline isn;t working well.... I used to use it and although we didn;t have a flea problem every time we went in the woods (and thats at least twice a day) Bramble and my labby Neo picked up ticks and I was forever trying to get rid of the things.... I hate them ticks really give me the heeby jeebies...

I changed to Effipro lots cheaper than Frontline and not had a tick issue since.

I tried the Billy no mates and to be honest didn;t find it worked or was that convenient really - you are meant to sprinkle it on the food except it doesn;t stick to kibble and my two refused to eat it point blank...

    Thanks Eve,
I must say I know a few folk (not to hand on the forum though ;D ) who use the Billy No Mates.
Since Lilly didn't take to the powdered wormer, and in fact has started to eat "around" the Drontal XL tablets, I thought getting her to take this regularly might be a challenge.

[Hmmm....just checked the web - it seems same active ingredient in Frontline AND Effipro - fipronil - the latter is just cheaper - maybe back to the drawing board. I'm not keen on tick collars as Lilly only wears a collar when out the house :-\ ]

I use Advantage (which is the same as Advocate but without the heartworm treatment, which we cover with an annual injection). It's what my vet recommends for fleas. Its active ingredient is Imidacloprid. No idea what that means though, just that it's different to Frontline.

I usually mix the kibble with other stuff like fish, veg or raw meat and always a dollop of low fat natural yoghurt so the Billy no Mates sort of blends in . Only ever found one tick on Sam and so far, no fleas, maybe he is just lucky ;)

Tick collar for us and a regular worming tablet(not sure what brand). A friend has five spaniels on the Isle of Wight where they have no deer so she doesn't worry about ticks, she took them into the woods here and had to remove about 30 from her dogs when she got home! I think ticks are really hideous!

We used to use Frontline for flea and ticks and and Milbemax for regular worming but I wanted to try something more natural, so bought some Billy No Mates for the fleas/ticks and Four Seasons liquid as a wormer. Lily has been having both since March this year and we haven't had a single tick or flea so far and I recently sent off a lungworm testing kit and a general wormcount testing kit (bought through myitchydog.co.uk) to Wormcount to check for worms and they were all clear too. We live in the countryside here so I was half expecting to have to revert back to the chemical based treatments but so far so good. Can't recommend them highly enough from what we've seen (or rather, not seen!) so far,,,

I use Advantix for Juno for fleas and ticks on a monthly basis and Milbemax as a worker every 3 months. We've had no problems. Bought a years supply of both from the vet earlier I the year as they had a special offer and saved quite a few euros
