Our two Labs along with more than 4,000 other dogs did a 2 mile walk along the river in Portland on Saturday. We went with our two Labs, two friends with Samoyeds, and one Springer mix. The walk follows the Willamette river on streets and walks we cross the river twice and come back to the starting area. The event is a fund raiser for the Oregon Humane Society and raised over $525,000. At the end of the walk there is a large event area in the park where there are reps from all manner of pet related businesses giving away samples, advice, etc. Also a pancake breakfast and "Adult Beverages" We started the day with Croissants and Mimosas at our house and finished with lunch at a brew pub called the "Lucky Lab" (actually there are 3 locations in Portland) Their signature beer is a double IPA called Super Dog. They have Lab photos all over the inside. A good time was had by all. The dogs were all tired at the end. I don't think it was the walk so much as the excitement of meeting hundreds of dogs. Virtually all were pretty well behaved, but that is no surprise since folks with difficult dogs don't want to participate in something like this. It seemed like Labs were in the majority, followed by Goldens and Siberians.
Oh really well done , I love charity events which involve dogs , and as you rightly say, its so good for the dogs, on all levels
Wow, what a turn out. Looks like great fun for all. Well done on a fantastic amount of money raised too
Looks fab. Well done on your contribution to needy doggies We have a similar annual thing here, run by the RSPCA. It's called the Million Paws Walk. It was on last Sunday (we didn't do the walk as we were competing in a Flyball competition that was part of the en route entertainment).
