Hope she's doing ok this morning Annette. Did you have the 'mini spay' done, or the traditional method?

Sedate probably won't last long. Meg was back to being a puppy the next day.

I'm pretty sure it won't last long. Lol but It's very nice for a change. Hehe. But she does look at me very sad. Her sad eyes are extra heart melting this evening.

As I'm not sure what a mini spay is I'm guessing it was just the standard one:) sorry I forgot to respond to that earlier.

Just on a side note. The vet told me Milly was going to be a very small lab as she is pretty much finished growing at 6months. Is this true? I thought that she would still have quite a bit of growing yet to do. When did all your dogs stop growing. So far she seems to still be growing out of harnesses and weight is still increasing. Just wondering.

Thats a strange comment to make Annette , bitches usually slow down in the growth rate at around 10-12 months , male dogs a little longer . Certainly Sam was nowhere near finished growing at six months, he kept on and on and on until he was around 15 months old :)

Oh that's great to hear. That's what I had thought. But started to wonder after the vat said it. She would Indead be a small girl if she was done already.
Thank you for answering my question.

Our trainer mentioned that you can tell when your dog is finished growning by the lowest joint on their front leg, when they still have growing to do there is still a bump at the front of the leg (usually always will be at the side) but if they have finish growing the front part of the joint will be smooth. Not sure if that's the case for all and i have no way of knowing yet as mine is just 5months and has a bit more growing to do.

Well she still definitely has the bumps. It will be interesting to see if and when they go away. Very interesting. Thanks

I had Molly spayed a month ago.

All I can say is 'enjoy the peace', because you will spend the next few days trying to keep her quiet and blaming yourself everytime she does something stupid like taking off vertically.

Well it's going to be a tough 10 days until these stitches come out. She is hyper! Had her on the lead and almost had to hold her down. Well I did hold her down a couple times. Vet said I could walk her as of today so I will have a go and see if that helps and doesn't just make her want to jump, lunge and try to run straight from the start. She usually walks pretty well unless a dog or child goes past. I will have to go somewhere pretty quiet I think. Lol how does everyone that's had surgery keep them calm and still? She may become super friendly with the crate. But I guess that ok under these situations?

    Glad Millie has "perked up"
I think Julie came up with some good ideas at keeping recuperating dogs busy - I remember the bit about feeding from kongs and wobblers and playing games and teaching tricks featured (wonder which thread....?)
I think using the crate will be a lifesaver for you ;)
    Wishing you luck!

In terms of keeping your dog occupied on restricted exercise, this is what I did:

Write down everything you can do with and for your dog - eg 10 minute on lead sniffs round the garden, packing up meals in frozen kongs, clicker training, allowed safe chews, teaching tricks, massages, find kibble in boxes, tearing up paperback books, teeth cleaning training. Write everything down. Then stock up on what you need - kongs, save packaging etc.

Then look at your schedule and work out how many activities you can fit into a day, and spread them out as much as possible - or grouped around the times when your dog is least likely to settle and go to sleep. Then stick to that routine. In between activities, if the dog won't settle put her in a crate or pen, if that's necessary - it certainly is for us - and they just have to learn that means quiet time.

    This is Charlie's routine:

6am Out to the garden on a lead for a pee, playtime and cuddles, physio exercises
    7.30am 25 – 30 min lead walk
After walk: settle down in his pen with a 8in1 chew
Mid morning: clicker train any new physio exercises
Noon: Physio exercises then 15 – 20 min lead walk
    Mid afternoon: Playtime
    4pm 25 – 30 min lead walk
After walk - settle down in pen with a small rice – or similar - chew
6pm Physio exercises, then 10 – 15 min lead walk
Frozen Kongs after the 6pm walk
Cuddles and back and leg massages mid evening, more frozen kongs
    10pm 5 – 10 min lead walk

When Charlie isn't doing any of the above he is in his pen, or in the kitchen if someone is working in there. If I let him have the run of the house, he would drive me mad with his constant nagging, chewing and general refusal to settle.

In terms of time fillers, I can't claim credit for them - I think every one of these has been suggested on the forum and I've just collected the ones that work for us:

8in1 filled rawhide (small - only one a day)
    Anco roots
    Pizzles
    Frozen kongs
    Hard packaging with kibble inside
An entire newspapers scrunched up in one big pass the parcel with a bit of kibble in each sheet
Frozen rice hedgehogs filled with soaked kibble
Kong goodie bones (I fill these with sea wraps - sticks of sweet potato wrap in fish skin)
    Kong wobblers
Kibble hidden between the balls of a trixie cube

The best quiet game is he has to lie very still (if he moves, we don't play) and catch a soft ball (we use the trixie cube balls) and give it back to me. He loves it, and will play it for ages.

Thanks for that. She is at the moment killing a purple snake in her crate. Lol. I will take her for a walk in a minute.

Snake is safe for the moment. Can't say the same for the orange lizard or the pink bunny. They are now bin fillers. Lol. The walk worked for now. She is now belly up and snoring. Lol she was actually very good on her walk. We got some good training in on the way and met no dogs so all was good.

Lol. That's very true. I will never have to fear anything stuffed ever again. I must say though Lambie is fairing very well. It is her favourite pillow and suck toy lol. She really doesn't try to destroy it at all. It is as we speak between her front legs with her head on it. Lol everything else though is not doing so great. :D
