Re: Today is the day to be honest i don't do all that leaving full kongs or , /treating, 2 meals a day is enough for my jasper, with a handful of tit bits for training, there is no need to be feeding kong after kong, i would only fill one kong if i was going out for 3/4 hours, that would be once a week, personally if they are getting there meals and treats for training , why give them more than they need,
Re: Today is the day I don't think it's about giving them more but giving them things that take longer to eat and keep them engaged for longer periods to help keep boredom and frustration to a minimum. I would be taking what I give her say in a kong out of her daily feed allocation. And definately not something you do all the time. It's only for a period of time while they need to be kept in quiet and calm state as much as possible.
Re: Today is the day i understand annette, it is only a post op recovery, some people think they have to keep feeding and leaving kongs for there dogs my jasper dont get bored as he is never left, i know milly as got lots of children around her, she will never get bored, who needs kongs when you have children for medicine, that is my believe, dog will never get bored with children ;D ;D
Re: Today is the day The biggest problem is that she is not calm and still with the children she is jumping etc. she isn't allowed to jump at all so she has to be in the crate more often than not. She isn't left alone much we are always here but she tends to run around like a mad idiot and jumps up and chases the cat etc.
Re: Today is the day awh bless annette then it must be so hard for you this evening, i have banned logan until tuesday, would of loved to ban my son , who lives with me , he gets jasper over excited, he had the day off work to come to the vets with me, today we got home and he started tickling jasper, i said just take time out in your room lad, haahaha he is 24, jasper needed to relax and calm, when he got home he cowered away from me, it was if he didn't , me, he as started to come round snuggled up with me had tickles under his neck , his throat is very sore with the tube being in his mouth , apart from that he as been fine, it as hurt me more than jasper hope milly is well
Re: Today is the day Does she suck on the Lambie? That is hilarious. So does Obi. There's a Labrador in our obedience class who's a sucker too. His name is Sunny and his suck object is Duckie.
Re: Today is the day Yes she does! It's very funny. She used to do it to her flat out bear. But she destroyed that one and it fell to pieces so now she does it to lambie. She even paws at it. It's pretty cute really.
Re: Today is the day ;D Obi sucks on his Lambies every day, but only the Lambies. He goes for the faces. Love it that Milly does it too. So funny ;D
Re: Today is the day That is really funny. I'm not sure if she sucks the same place each time. I will have to watch lol
Re: Today is the day Penny has a children's grey dog soft toy, which we call big grey dog. I bought it the first week we had her home and it's her favourite toy... But she has sucked it to death! His leafs are hanging off and she has sucked his ears so much they have pretty much gone! I had to go bulbs replacement for the day when big grey dog needs to retire and she can have new big grey dog instead.
Re: Today is the day I hope that Millie is continuing to improve and isn't too restless. Bess was given a soft owl on the day she arrived with us; owlie is the toy she carries around and sucks on and is now very threadbare. Bess is two on Thursday so she has a new owlie waiting for her, it is in the dirty laundry basket in the hope it will be a bit smelly by the time she gets it. Alice
Re: Today is the day Tatze sucks her teddy's nose - she has had him since she arrived, but his ears were chewed off long ago
Re: Today is the day Haha now that's a teddy!! Go Tatze. Last time I was watching and Milly was sucking Lambies neck. Lol lookes like she was trying to kill it but the sucking noises were all there along with the paws needing away
Re: Today is the day Just a little update. Milly is doing great. She is very bouncy and bubbly. ??? I have been taking her out for three short walks a day to try breaking up her crate time as much as possible. She has had small periods off the lead just in the kitchen and lasts maybe 5 minutes before she gets a bit crazy. My walks today were an absolute disaster unfortunately. She wanted to pull like steam train the whole time. I think tomorrow I will do at least one long walk weather permitting. She has sooooo much pent up energy. Hopefully that will just wear her out a little more. Rachael I hope Obi will be ready for a good run after the stitches come out cause Milly is going to need a few. Lol
Re: Today is the day Ah, much sympathy - these energetic pups can drive you a little mad on crate rest! Stack up the frozen kongs. The other thing that I found helpful was to partition (with puppy pen panels) off the part of the kitchen that I was working in - there was then limited space in which he could hoolie round. Unfortunately, I found there was just no way I could make a dent in Chrlie's energy with lead walks - not until we got up above 2 hours! Which obviously is too much for a 6 month old. Hang in there, won't be for long!
Re: Today is the day I tried one of these with Tatze today - I think it would be great for enforced rest http://tinyurl.com/ks4g8nv
