@Atemas, just seen the two week wait. Pants. We only waited 2 to 3 days for the results! There are a few things you can do if you think it is giardia in terms of cleaning, disinfecting etc.
Poor Red. I hope she recovers soon and is then able to have some belated birthday treats. It’s worrying dealing with the unknown and seeing them feeling unwell.
How horrible for all of you. The trouble is when you're up lots in the night it's so tiring, then I find things I could normally deal with become harder. Hope you all have a better night
I am sorry the vet didn't suggest anything you could do to make here feel better until the results come back, seems a long time. Don't let her get dehydrated and if you are at all worried, so phone the vet for advice, why are available 24 hours. There is an injection she can have to help with the sickness.
The kennel we take our dogs to has about 70 acres with a large pond. It is common for the dogs to pickup Giardia there, and the kennel owners routinely threat the dogs with Metronidazole. I asked our vet about it, and she thought it was probably a good idea. I think all of our dogs have had Giardia at some time, though most of they times they weren't noticeably sick. It just came up in a routine health check.
Aw no......so sorry to hear this. Poor girl. Hope she picks up soon (and gets a belated birthday fun day x)
Sorry to hear she is not well. Hopefully she will settle down and be a bit more livelier today. Happy Birthday to her and a belated party is in order once she is better
Update on Red. Firstly thank you everyone for your kind words yesterday. What a terrible day! Red carried on being sick and having diarrhoea up until about 6.00 pm. We were literally going out the door so she could be sick, back in, then immediately out again for diarrhoea. It was horrendous. The vet said to feed her, she wasn’t at all interested - not surprising. Even the medication to help settle her tum, came back up within minutes. We unfortunately had to go out in the evening and I had no choice but to leave her for a couple of hours. A neighbour kindly offered to come in but I felt by the time I had to leave, Red was so exhausted she would probably sleep. When we got home, she had been very sick but went and drank quite a bit of water and she had no more diarrhoea. The vet was very thorough and we came away with Metrobactin, Panacur, and Ranitidine.Today she has had all and a bit of Hills i/d and so far so good . We will await the giardia results. She was tested for this earlier in the year but that was clear. I have completely vacuumed, then washed all the floors downstairs, wiped everything possible with antibacterial wipes. I am totally exhausted!
You poor soul , it is shattering for us when they are poorly x At least she is drinking water which is good , fingers crossed for a better day xx
Poor Red, hope she will settle down today for you. Lets have another birthday for her when she is better
What a worrying and stressful time you have had. I am pleased that the vet gave you some medication and hope she feels much better by now.
I hope the meds and Hills i/d help and she begins to take an interest in food again and keeps it down, without it going straight through! I'm not surprised you feel totally exhausted, not only with all the cleaning but with the inevitable worry, too. I hope she improves today and keeps drinking.
Poor Red, poor you I really hope she is improving and that you are getting some sleep. It's horrible and a worry for you. xxx
What a worry. I'm glad she's drinking now and eaten a bit of food. Fingers crossed she gets better soon x
Red is much better - eating and taking her medications. I am still on tenterhooks though with her - she hasn’t had a poo since that awful diarrhoea which stopped Friday evening. She is quiet but then she’s a fairly quiet dog anyway so maybe I read too much into that. I took her for a walk last night - she was great - no treats cos I haven’t reintroduced her kibble yet. DH has taken her for her usual walk this morning - we have snow here so a first for her. Will see how the day goes.
