So I am sure everyone has toilet issues at some point. I know my little man is only new and still very young, so I am being patient, but there's this:

He goes to sleep in his crate. He's down for a good few hours. Then he wakes up and complains. I take him out for toilet. He sniffs a little bit and then gives up, and curls up into a ball on the ground. I don't wanna be too engaging when it's night time and toilet time so I pop him up and back on his potty spot. Same thing, twirls, lies down and doesn't care. I bring him in to his crate and then he cries, making me think he needs potty.

It's so confusing knowing when he needs it and when he's just being a little sissy

It sounds more as if he is crying when he wakes because he is alone than because he needs to toilet. Does he actually pee or poop when you take him out? If he doesn't you could try adding some nice cuddly toys for him to snuggle up to and see if he goes through without crying. In any event I don't think he's being a "little sissy" he is a young puppy being a young puppy

Where is his crate? I used to cover Hattie's crate at night to make it more cosy :)

Yeah he's got a long in his crate and some nice toys. It's definitely lonely crying. I just got up at 3am to have a drink of water myself and he was sitting there quietly in his crate. I took him out and he bounced around a little, then peed. Praise heaps, back inside, now crying.

His crate is in the living room, and I slept out there with him for a few nights. Tonight he's there by himself, but our apartment is so small, you could hear us breathing in the bedroom from where he is.

When I took him out at 1am he didn't toilet. Just curled up on my feet and went back to sleep. But I initially went n got him because I heard he woke up and wanted him to pee.

Set my alarm for 3am and he was awake, but silent. Took him out and he pees.

It's all very confusing trying to read the signs, but thank you all for your help, patience and advice

So did he cry at 1:00 or did you just take him out. He is very much a baby at the moment who is missing the comfort of mum and litter mates I had Juno beside me in the bedroom at night for the first couple of weeks. If she whimpered I could speak to her quietly and put my hand on the crate so she knew I was near. I found she settled easily and I could hear when she got fidgety needing to pee at which point I was out of crate, down to the garden, pee and back in crate with vey little interaction. After 2 weeks she went into the kitchen in her crate and never heard a peep out of her at night Not all dogs give much in the way of signals that they need a pee and when they are tiny they don't really pick up the signals themselves. It's a bit like potty training a baby :)

yeah he woke up at 1, so i took him out. He didnt potty, just wandered around a little and curled into a ball. When I took him back inside he cried for about 20 minutes. All good.

I got him up at 7 this morning, clean and dry crate, took him out and he did number one and two. Came in for a play and he tore my hands to pieces. Working on the nipping stuff, but hes always very mouthy in the mornings. He is doing really good tho.

I think his teeth might be hurting in the mornings because hes really mouthy and I will give him a kong leo, which he can actually fit in his mouth, and he will chew on it

With bitey pups most of us have a toy in our hand ready to intercept those little teeth.
