So we got a 9 week old Lab and he seems to be happy this last week in his new family. Toilet Training has been challenging. He doesnt wee or poo 25 to 30 mins after eating or sleeping. It can be a few hours. Today he has had 17 toilet trips. 12 successful outdoor 7 indoor accidents. Im clicker training for toilet training. He gets a high value reward if he does it outside. Wondering if this is the norm? The accidents are frustrating!
It sounds pretty normal but if you’re concerned, take a sample to your vet to have checked in case your puppy has a UTI. These are pretty common in pups. Clicker training isn’t a bad thing to do but also isn’t really appropriate for toileting; the click is a precise marker and is designed to mark a very precise (short) behaviour. Which weeing isn’t
Totally normal. My (now 7 month old) lab would never go immediately after eating. It was usually about an hour or two after eating. Also, it's 100% normal for them to go this often. You usually have to take them out every 20 minutes to go! It's very frustrating, I agree. But they learn fast. By 10 weeks mine had like one accident a day inside and was totally house-trained by 12 weeks.
Had a good day yesterday. Only two indoor accidents! But I think thats more to do with me being more aware of the signals! Puppy has pooed his crate the last two nights though
Sounds like you are on track. We took ours out in the night, prob up till about 10-11 weeks or so. Maybe you still need to do that for a little while longer.
