Re: Tomorrow Just been told there is a long delay as 2 of the dogs took ages to come through from the plane, so delivery guys have missed the original train through the Eurotunnel. It's going to be a long night
Re: Tomorrow He's a gorgeous looking boy. Hope the delays aren't too long for you all. Very exciting!
Re: Tomorrow Ah ,that's a shame ,try and get an early couple of hours if you can ,I'll be checking in first thing to see if there is any news....we are all chomping for news but don't feel under pressure Ternaya, getting him all settled in and keeping Harley happy will keep you busy and is your priority so understand if it goes quiet for a bit ,best of luck xxxxx
Re: Tomorrow Stay calm Ternaya, that will help him the most. You'll all be fine, he looks like such a great dog, and surprisingly calm considering all that is happening. He is a gorgeous colour! There is an older dog on the flight too, Fred, a small ten-year old hunting dog dumped at the pound because he was too old to work.. A Good Fairy paid for his ticket to the UK, and my sister is going to foster him. These lucky dogs, to have a second chance!
Re: Tomorrow he's a stunner and you will be fine! The only advice I can offer is that when we took Scooby on, Belle appeared "depressed" and withdrawn for around 2 weeks, and Scooby was also a bit low - he had had a bit of a sad period in his life, but they turned it around between them. Dogs are remarkable creatures, we just gave them equal love and attention, not OTT, and they settled. I do think we were very lucky.
Re: Tomorrow He is a very handsome dog but did look rather anxious, poor boy must be wondering what on earth is happening. However, once he is with you he will have the best life he has ever had.
Re: Tomorrow Aw, good luck Naya, he is a handsome lad. I think you've had some great advice and - as you say - you'll probably end up playing it be ear-with-forethought. I'm sure both dogs will be fine. Sending you lots of pozzy vibes xx
Re: Tomorrow Hope Spero has arrived safely with you by now Ternaya....I won't be around until this afternoon so just wanted to check in and let you know I'd passed by x
Re: Tomorrow The dogs have all been delivered safely to their foster homes. Fred is with his short-term foster, and is going to my sister next Friday. Apparently he is surprisingly calm and chilled, considering all he's been through!! Not heard any more yet regarding Spero, and I'll be out now for several hours so just wanted to say I hope all is well and will check in later today.
Re: Tomorrow Hi all, Spero is here None of us got much ssleep, partly my fault as I forgot to get a crate - picking one up at 2pm. I ended up taking Harley to bed and left hubby with Spero for a few hours . He is very affectionate. Only problems we have had are marking literally everywhere and food aggressive. We are now separating them when either of them are eating. Harley has been brilliant - she keeps giving him her ball, but he doesn't know what to do with it, but she keeps taking things to him. They have had a short walk, had several runs in the garden and seem to be ok. Will post some pics later
Re: Tomorrow Bless him xx and you xx and your husband! So glad he is safe and well and gets on with Harley ;D
Re: Tomorrow Yay , so pleased to hear from you Naya , baby steps but its sounding good so far , great news Marking should rapidly decrease as he feels more secure , as should the feeding issues but you do right to feed them separately for now
Re: Tomorrow Oh such good news he is getting on with Harley! Charlie - very briefly - showed signs of marking indoors. He started it around new items that arrived (eg a new blanket over a chair and so on, and then at the vet's). I just treated it as a house training problem, nothing else - and that is what it is. So supervision, interruption, outside, restricted his space, established areas as his den, and so on. Just as with a puppy. I haven't had a problem since (although it's always touch and go walking round pets at home : ).
Re: Tomorrow That's great! Thanks for letting us know! He's probably learned that you need to defend your food or lose it.... Separated feeding should help a lot
Re: Tomorrow What a great start , you are all super but step up the beautiful Harley for Being so lovely to her new foster pal .... Makes me sad that he doesn't know how to play and what Rachael has just written..... These poor dogs :'( those days are behind Spero ... Thanks for coming on Naya , good luck for the rest of the day xxx
Re: Tomorrow Aw, thanks for the update Naya, at what must be a very busy time for you! I'm so glad that Harley and Spero are getting on well - that's a massive burden off your mind. I'm sure the food guarding will sort itself out. When we first brought Shadow home, there was a bit of that; Shadow was being fed in a bit of a free-for-all with the other puppies, so he tried to protect what he had and didn't have the manners to respect Willow's as her own. So, I fed them either side of a dividing wall and stood at the end of this divider to keep them apart until they'd both finished, and only then could they approach the other's bowl. It only took a few days before Shadow learnt that he had his own bowl and no-one was going to steal it, and that he didn't have to steal Willow's, either. They're now fed side-by-side and I can walk away knowing that they'll wait until the other has finished before sticking their nose into that bowl. Which always amuses me, because what they expect to find there, I have no idea It may take a little longer with Spero if his issues with food have been ingrained deeper, but I'm sure he'll learn in time, and with some space at meal times, that his food isn't going to be taken away, and that more will be coming along in a few hours. Keep us updated when you can
Re: Tomorrow That's all lovely news Riley and obi are fed separately as Riley would starve otherwise while little greedy guts swipes his meal! I'm glad I'm not the only one whose dog pees in Pets at Home. Hope you all have a great first day!! xxx
