Re: Tomorrow Really pleased to hear he's home and all going well so far. It's so lovely that you're giving this boy a second chance in life.
Re: Tomorrow So pleased to hear that Spero arrived safe at home with you and I'm sure any issues with marking or food aggression will soon pass when he learns that he is safe in his new environment and no-one is going to steal his food. What a fantastic dog you have in Harley that she is trying so hard to mark Spero feel welcome. you should be very proud of her
Re: Tomorrow He may never have been inside, Naya, so not understand that he shouldn't pee indoors. Regarding the food issue - my Mum feeds Bella separately, since she guards her food and steals from the others otherwise! I guess that's just how they had to manage in the pound.. But it sounds, all things considered, like a good start, with dear Harley doing her very best to try to help him feel at home. What a lovely girl!
Re: Tomorrow Wonderful news. It's sounds like Harley and Spero have got off to a good start. Harley sharing her much loved tennis balls is a very good sign. I hope he settles in quickly.
Re: Tomorrow Oh well done Naya, and well done Harley! Pongo says he's never understood what to do with a tennis ball either, but he'd love Harley to bring him one....lucky Spero!
Re: Tomorrow Just catching up with this - so glad Spero is home with you now! All I can offer is my own observations of getting Simba when he was about 10 months old, however he didn't come from a kennel so keep that in mind. He was very tentative at first, and it took a long time for him to really settle in and feel like this was truly his home. It was a visible change in him, subtle, but there nonetheless. So don't worry if Spero seems a bit subdued or withdrawn or ill-mannered or whatever...he's in a new environment, and although you have all the best intentions in the world and only want to love him, he doesn't know that yet. Patience and love is the key, and I know you know that, and that he is in good hands. Watching eagerly with the rest as he begins his life with you.
Re: Tomorrow Gosh, they look great together - Spero looks very male compared to Harley, his and hers fox red labs!
Re: Tomorrow I have been away and missed all this excitement! What a lovely thing you are doing for Spero. He is a handsome dog and I really hope he settles well into his new home with you. How lovely for Harley to have a live-in playmate - she will soon teach him how to play, I'm sure Wishing you all the best for the next days and weeks while you all get used to each other.
Re: Tomorrow Yeah Spero is home, he looks gorgeous and well done Harley for making him feel so at home We had toileting issues with Charlie at first but it soon settled down. Charlie was a pound dog too and he used to absolutely gobble food and then nick Hatties, but we put his food on a plastic tray which slowed him down. Hattie & Charlie always have their meals side by side without any issues, you just have to judge and work out what's best for them. I always give treats, chews etc. to them both at the same time too Wishing you lots and lots of luck!! xxxx
