Re: Tonight's telly Arrrr bless, my Millie was sound asleep but I will be checking if she is right footed and which way her fur twirls in the morning ;D
Re: Tonight's telly was just trying to see which way Charlie's fur swirls - all of the place, it looks like ;D that's why he's nuts... ;D ;D
Re: Tonight's telly Nothing to do with fur swirling Julie it's just all dogs called Charlie ;D ;D Helen x
Re: Tonight's telly Jasper don't stand too close you will get square eyes! ;D Glad it's come back on we didn't have Dexter when we watched it first time round and we couldn't remember the swirls...will check them out ..
Re: Tonight's telly Most guide dogs are "right pawed" and the fur swirls clockwise (might be other way round, can't remember now) - left pawed, and the dog is inventive (or something - on the telly, the left pawed dog was feeding lambs with a bottle without been trained to do so).

Re: Tonight's telly
Rachael.....are you back from your trip?im sure you are, been missing things whilst away...how was Obi with his Sitter Family? X
Yes, we're back Was my Mum's 70th birthday in Sydney. After driving home I had to go back to Sydney for work the next day though. Back home again now. Things didn't go that well with the sitter family. Obi pooped on their son's bed :-\ While the son was in it. Yep, we were pretty embarrassed. Mortified, more like. It was kind of a 'perfect storm' - new dog given access to whole huge house without supervision, dog not walked all weekend, shortly after arrival dog left in backyard while whole family went out, two small kids allowed to determine how they would interact with strange new dog (little girl immediately all over dog like a blanket, little boy showing no interest in dog), dog made to sleep in laundry when used to sleeping on human bed. After 24 hours of Obi sizing up the new social situation the pooping incident occurred. I'd say he targeted the boy's bed. Other factors could have been that the family did not notice Obi's signs that he needed to go out and also that he was not walked and his morning poop is always on a walk. There is no excuse for it, but, to be honest, this was not a dog savvy family. The were literally hundreds of toys everywhere too, the least dog-proof house I have ever seen. Obi picked up and cracked one little Lego man - they were unhappy about that because their son got really upset but, really, it's a miracle that that was the only toy casualty. On the plus side, he was great with the cat. I had actually not wanted to leave him there because I knew that it wasn't the right environment, but hubby convinced me it'd be ok. I blame myself entirely for making a bad judgement to leave Obi there when I knew it was all wrong. I've got no reason at all to think that they did not treat Obi well - I'm sure they were kind to him. Though I've no doubt they were angry about the pooping thing and the crunched Lego man. Anyway, next time we are going with my gut instinct....!
Re: Tonight's telly oh my life, poor obi...did they advertise as dog sitters ?....we have been lucky so far not to have left jasper with sitters.....my daughter always says leave him here for a w/end,that is the last place i would leave him ??? they are not doggy friendly what so ever,....when we visit them i run around first picking things up, it would be like heaven to him...he would have a ball with all of the toys left out at least he was treated well
Re: Tonight's telly Oh no Rachael! That's quite a story. Glad Obi has come to no harm though I imagine this will be a good "dinner party" story in years to come......possibly for the sitters too! Hopefully you will find a happier solution next time its needed.
Re: Tonight's telly Oh my....Obi showing some Simba-tendencies.... Although there certainly would have been more than one toy destroyed, mind!! I think Obi handled himself as best as he could given the upheaval.....but I do wonder - was the boy sleeping at the time?? How could he not notice what dog was up to??
Re: Tonight's telly Goodness grief.......I would never have imagined that scenario in a million years........ I have to admit to intake of breath reading about the poo,and then I've had a right chuckle ,I'm sorry!Oh to have been able to see that happen.....and the aftermath ! How did you find them?maybe they are a family that think they want a dog and have decided to pet sit to see how it goes.....they don't sound very prepared.i know that things are never done the same as we do them ourselves but to not walk him is very shabby in my book........and they obviously don't think anything is wrong in that by telling you Hope your Mum had a lovely Birthday though and bet Obi is settled back home contentedly again x
Re: Tonight's telly I am definitely able to see the funny side myself.... We used a commercial pet minding service that matches dogs up with homes. We did a 'preliminary visit' to this home a couple of months ago and it was then that I didn't feel right about it, but we went ahead with it anyway.... I really don't blame the family - the bottom line is that there is no way that Obi should ever have pooped in a human bed. It was a very bad thing to do. The poor little boy was so distressed that he threw up (poor kid, I really feel so sorry for him). The family just ran their household in a way that didn't work for our dog, who is used to a lot more structure, guidance, activity and one-on-one attention. It's not their fault and they really were very nice people. Our previous dog and Obi have stayed with other families using this service and I have to say that we have always had great experiences in the past (and both dogs have been very well behaved). I was talking to our day care lady about it and her view was that Obi did actually do very well given the extreme difference between this house and ours. He only ate one toy amongst hundreds, was gentle with the cat, tolerated extensive cuddling from the little girl and played beautifully with the family's dog (I forgot to mention that they had their own dog) and he didn't steal any food. She said that she knows someone who specialises in Labrador minding and that she is very fussy about the dogs she takes but that she definitely would take Obi - so I think we will pursue that avenue next time!!!
