Please forgive me for posting this as I'm really not complaining but I'm worried I'm boring my puppy to death. Is it normal for an 11 week puppy to sleep a lot still? I'm worried I'm boring her and she just wants to sleep sleep sleep. We live a pretty laid back life, and she does have her crazy puppy energy boost moments but I'm worried I'm not doing enough with her. We play, have training sessions, play. She walks to school which is a block away to take my daughter to school and pick her up....I guess I was just expecting a crazy unruly pup but so far she is just like how she was when we chose her from the litter at 6 weeks. The laid back pup.
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... No, she is still a babe, and like babys, needs a lot of sleep, she may also be a quiet sleepy dog, my Otis is, can sleep all day. She just needs a little exercise, like you have been giving her and playtime, but let her sleep in peace , Maggie xx
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... Hi Ashley, I'm finding that Maisie (12 weeks) is sleeping more now than she did at 8 weeks! I had the same worries as you to start with, but Maggie is right, she just needs her sleep!
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... Hi Aburns - I know exactly how you feel! Pongo was the laid-back pup in the litter (his breeder called him 'the calm, sensible one'!) and he still is. At nearly 6 months he still sleeps nearly all day! He has plenty of energy when playtime comes (either for a bit of a wrestle with my OH indoors, or a run round the garden, or his daily walk (which is about a mile up and down muddy hills) but otherwise he just snoozes. I do keep wondering if he is 'bored to death' but actually I'm pretty sure he is happy and content to just snooze the day away until we are ready to play with him. He goes to doggy day care about once a fortnight, and loves running about with his friends, but he is equally happy to jump back in the car to come home and snooze again! So I'd say don't worry - you and I can just be grateful we've got puppies who are the 'sensible' type (!) Rosie
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... I agree with everyone else Harley slept a lot til she was around 6 months, she still sleeps a lot, but not as much
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... Be grateful. Molly has never been a sleeper. I have never known her to run out of steam in the middle of anything. Totally unfair as I has three kids that never slept
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... I was about to say "all dogs sleep a lot" but then I read the thread. So I will say all my dogs have slept a lot, it's nothing to worry about at all - mine all lived very long and healthy lives
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... Meg was like that as a puppy. We could be playing and all of a sudden she'd nod off. Then about 20-30 minutes later she'd wake up and look to play again. They're still babies and need their sleep bless them. Meg is now 14 and sleeps a helluva lot.

Charlie sleeps at night and once he is asleep wild horses wouldn't shift him from his bunk (even when I get up). But once he is up for the day, that's it.
Re: Too mellow? Sleepy puppy question... Penny only used to be awake for about half an hour at a time. Puppies have a lot of growing and learning to do, which happens in their sleep so usually they need to sleep a lot. I've also heard it said that puppies that come from and adult only home or a home with older people will grow up to be more laid back dogs than those from a family or a very active home. I'm not sure how accurate that is but it would be interesting to find out.

I have two kids that have never slept, one is 1.5 still nursing and still wakes up numerous times a night and my husband works in camp so it's all me all of the time with no break. Rosie, glad to know your pups calm laid back demeanour carried on! We chose her because of it and I said "I need a calm laid back dog!" But due to the majority of owners mentioning their wild crazy pup I worried she wasn't normal so thank you! Feeling relieved, thanks for the responses.
