Pongo is just over three years old now. I've been toying with the idea of doing some clicker training with him.... we have never done it, and it might be fun. But is he too old to pick it up now? And where should I start?

(And then, of course, I need to find somewhere to buy a clicker!)

No not too old at all! Casper came to us at 5.5 years old, he took really well to the clicker. :)

I started with Coco when we got him at 16 months. It's worth a go Rosie. If he takes to it, it can make for really fast learning.
Once you've charged your clicker, start with a simple trick that he doesn't already know. The latest one we're learning is "around" a cone.

Go for it! I was never a big clicker fan until I did the assistance dog training with Brogan, then I really got it. It's really good for shaping complex behaviours because you can get really precise. The look on their face when they get what you want is priceless. Age doesn't matter at all - I had a couple older foster dogs who did great with it. Have fun! :)

Yes, yes Pongo can learn. I started using a clicker with Charlie around Pongo's age and he took to it like a duck to water. He learned all kinds of things some for fun and some that are necessary. Charlie can hardly contain himself when I get my clicker out :D Looking forward to see what Pongo learns.

You can buy a clicker on Amazon. :) x

Go for it! If nothing else, Pongo will certainly enjoy 'charging' the clicker! Ella thought that bit was THE BEST :D

Ok, that's a project for this year! Has Pippa written a how-to on clicker training? Ive got Total Recall but not sure it covers it?

Just ordered this one this morning. I'm very excited now. I have been pondering trying clicker training for months now. Hoping it helps crack the whole Axel stealing everything problem, such as couch pillows and throw blankets.

Clicker training is amazing, my trainer did a course back in April 2015. I've been hooked ever since. I happen to have the Karen Pryor ones that I wear like a bracelet with the clicker tucked in the palm of my hand. I have loads they are everywhere I get withdraw symptoms if I loose one. I'm a bit like that with my whistle too. Perhaps I should get out more. :D:D

Oh gosh, going out and realising you don't have your whistle is the worst! I come out in sweats! :D

I have a clicker and a whistle in most jackets and treat bags - and I can still forget one or the other

I started using a clicker early last year. We only use it at home and at agility. It's fun to use, but with my coordination it too difficult to use on walks. It's a great tool for teaching tricks and for new equipment.
