I was never enamoured by the puppy classes I signed up to with Digby, they are recommended by loads of people round here but it just wasn't right for us. Really vague instruction and so many pups (up to 16 one time). I was quite disappointed by 2 others I went to see too, a blow as this was one thing I really wanted to do with Digby as I am a total dog novice.

Well, this morning I went to have a nosey at some other classes I have found nearby, more expensive but it seems much more like what we were looking for. Outside in a large enclosed paddock. No more than 6 dogs but there were only 3 today (her evening, indoor ones are much more popular). Most important she was giving the owners instruction which was much more like the kind of thing I wanted, as well as being very encouraging and personable. I'm really excited, there are a variety of other things she does should we progress well and enjoy it. Agility, nose work, working trials, even tricks, which my 10 year old would love. Have signed up for a 6 week obedience course starting in April...can't wait. ;D

Good for you Sersi, I am sure you and Digby too will enjoy it. Pops and I love our classes! We do ours open air too - and have suffered through rain, wind, sleet, icy temperatures and snow!!! But it's all worth it. We have become much closer to each other as a result of working together - and in addition I have gained new friends through the group. :D

That's fantastic! Sounds like a good class. A class that allows time for socialisation and training is the ideal, I reckon. Helps them to learn control and focus around other dogs.

Our dog club goes ahead no matter what the weather too - and it's outdoors. Sometimes a bit of a challenge for the humans but it never makes any difference to our Labrador!

Well, attended the first class today and its brilliant. :D

Outside, 5 young dogs, 2 labs (including Digby), a golden retriever, a doberman and an Airedale terrier. The trainer is lovely, professional, great advice and very happy to answer my endless stream of questions. She makes so much sense it was likely listening to folk on here, and training with like minded people too. I'm delighted, I have a spring in my step, but Digby is fast asleep on our scruffy old kitchen sofa. :)

She does trials, nosework, agility and all sorts of classes as well as the obedience ones we are attending. I feel very excited by the possibilities but mostly feel like she can help me better understand my dog and how to communicate with him (and ultimately therefore control him). So non - threatening it was perfect for a complete novice like myself.

    I hope you're all having a good day too. :D :D
