So I'm trying to work out a way to train Ella to play better so that my hands get a little less teeth action. It's not that she's biting when playing but when we're playing tug, she always adjusts her grip on the rope and slowly ends up right at the top by my hand. More often than not my fingers or hand will cop a couple of teeth in the process.

We've trained her to let go of any toy (or anything actually) when we say "leave" and she's very good, even mid-game.

Now I'm wondering if there's a way for me to train her to only hold her end of the toy? Otherwise I'll have to invest in a chain mail glove

You need a toy that has very clear "ends" and the game stops if she puts her teeth on your end.

So train her to take her end, and only keep playing so long as she is holding her end. And you need a decent bit of distance between her end and your hands.
