Will be getting my puppy early May at eight weeks old and wonder when can I start training the basics (aside from potty training) such as "sit, come, etc"?
Some friends say "right away), others say 16 weeks. I am new at this. Help!!!

Welcome Yvonne from me Helen, Hattie 6 years and Charlie our rescue 3 years. I would saystart training straight away with basics like recall, sit etc. just in short bursts so nothing too taxing for a little pup. How exciting for you, what are you going to call him/her? Enjoy this wonderful forum where you will get lots of help with everything. xx :)

Warm welcome from me, two year old Sam and little Millie :) :)

Agree with Helen , definately start straight away before any bad habits form . Pups are like little sponges , soaking it all up and eager to please too . I would also say that its better to have short sessions very often , no more than ten mins max at a time , they get bored and concentration wanders too :)

Hi and welcome :). So exciting :D

I also agree that training should start straight away...this is what I did and at 7 months old, she is still learning something every day :)

Hi Yvonne, welcome from me too.
    Agree with the others. :D
I think half our problems with Lilly (not great recall) stem from missing out the vital early training as a pup.

Are you planning on getting Pippa's Puppy Book? Or maybe Total Recall? As the puppy book hasn't been released just yet I can't really comment on it, but if its half as good as Total Recall it will be well worth getting. Highly recommended.

And welcome to the Forum :)
